I was not happy
The smile that I had on my face
was just the pretense of the happiness
that I feigned
Because I missed her
But when my gaze caught those firelight eyes
everything instantly changed
because she was now here
with me.
Author’s Commentary: Something that I enjoyed adding to my poem was inspired by a book that I'm reading called No Good Deed by Goldy Moldavsky. In that book, I learned a lot of new words that I'd never seen or used before that I wanted to use in my writing. In my poem, I’m exploring the theme of the attachment that one feels for someone one cares for, I wanted to express that through my poem.
"Short and sweet, just like how I would describe the feeling of love. It's a very cute poem and I like how you started off in a negative tone first. I could relate to this poem really well because, as a bit of a romantic myself, it really is kind of heart wrenching not to be able to be around your partner or other loved ones."
