94:1
[The] God of vengeance [is] Yahweh.
O God of vengeance, shine forth.
94:2
Be lifted up, O judge of the earth.
Return recompense upon the proud.
94:3
How long [the] criminals, Yahweh?
How long will [the] criminals triumph?
94:4
They pour out [words],
They speak without restraint.
All the doers of wickedness speak boastfully [Hithpael Impf of amar].
94:5
They crush your people, Yahweh.
And your inheritance they humiliate.
94:6
A widow and a stranger they put to the sword,
And [the] fatherless they murder.
94:7
And they say, “Yah does not see,
and the God of Jacob does not pay attention."
94:8
Pay attention, you stupid among the people!
And [you] fools, when will you consider? [assonance, note the long ‘I’ hiyreq]
94:9
Does the planter of the ear not hear?
If he is the former of eyes, is he not looking?
94:10
The one disciplining the nations, does he not rebuke,
the one teaching Adam knowledge.
94:11
Yahweh knows the thoughts of Adam,
for they are vapour.
94:12
Blessed is the man who Yah corrects,
and [who] you teach from your Torah,
94:13
to cause him to be quiet from the days of evil,
until a pit is dug for the evil ones.
94:14
For Yahweh will not forsake his people,
and he will leave his inheritance.
94:15
For judgement returns to righteousness,
And all the upright of heart [follow] after it [i.e., righteousness].
94:16
Who will stand for me against the evil ones?
Who will take a stand for me against the workers of wickedness?
94:17
Unless Yahweh [is] a helper to me,
Silence would almost dwell in my life.
94:18
If I said, ‘My foot stumbles',
your loving kindness, Yahweh, supports me.
94:19
When many anxious thoughts [arise] inside me,
Your consolations divert my soul/life.
94:20
Can you make an ally of a throne of destruction,
devising trouble upon a decree?
[OR Can a throne of destruction make an alliance with you to create toil by means of an ordinance?].
94:21
They attack the lives of the righteous,
and the blood of the innocent they condemn.
94:22
And Yahweh will be for me for a stronghold,
and my God for a rock of my refuge.
