For the director. To crocuses [shoshanim]. A testimony. Belonging to Asaph. A composition.
[The spice saffron is picked from the flower of crocuses. Cf. Susah, the capital where Esther was. Also translated ‘lilly’. A small flower that grows in the desert and has a purple flower, from which Saffron is picked.].
80:2
Shepherd of Israel, hear, driving Joseph like the flock.
Sitting on the cherubim, shine forth.
80:3
Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
Rouse your mighty ones and come for our salvation.
80:4
God, cause us to return and cause your face to shine and let us be saved.
80:5
Yahweh, God of armies,
How long have you fumed/smoked in/among the prayer of your people.
80:6
You cause them to eat the bread of tears,
You caused him to drink tears three
80:7
You set us strife with our neighbours
And our enemies mock to one another.
80:8
God of hosts, cause us to return,
And shine the light of your face,
And let us be saved.
80:9
A vine from Egypt you led out.
You drove out nations and you planted it.
80:10
You made clear [the land] in front of her,
And you struck root [propagating/striking cuttings] her root
And you filled the land.
80:11
They covered the mountains [with] her shade,
And her branches, the cedars of God.
80:12
You sent her boughs to the sea
And to the river her shoots.
80:13
Why did you break through her walls
And they plucked her, all the ones who passed over the way.
80:14
A boar of the forest tore her [the vine] off
Beasts of the field grazed upon her.
80:15
God of hosts, please turn, Look from heaven and se and visit this vine. [1 Kings 8]

And a support which she planted your right hand
And on the son your make firm your (f) self.
80:17
Flaming with fire, being cast away because of the rebuke of your face they perished.
80:18
Your hand was on a man of your right hand,
On a son of Adam you made firm for yourself.
80:19
I did not backslide from you.
You preserved us.
And by your name we call.
80:20
Yahweh, God of armies, bring us back.
Cause your face to shine and let us be saved.
