7:1A driving, wild song (שִׁגָּי֗וֹן) of David, which he sang to Yahweh concerning the words of Cush the Benjamin.
Yahweh my God, in you I seek refuge (חָסָה).
Save me (יָשַׁע) from all who persue me (רָדַף)
And deliver me (נָצַל).
7:2Lest they tear (טָרַף) my life like a lion,
ripping and there is no one delivering (נָצַל).
7:3 Yahweh my God, if I have done this,
If there is wrongdoing (עָ֥וֶל) in my palm
7:4if I have dealt out (גָּמַל) to the one at peace with me (שֽׁוֹלְמִ֥י) evil (רָ֑ע)
And have acted with hostility (צָרַר )
And have delivered her [over]/oppressed/pulled out ( וָאֲחַלְּצָה) the one opposing me (צוֹרְרִ֣י) without cause (רֵיקָם adverb emptily, vainly)
7:5Let an enemy pursue (יִֽרַדֹּ֥ף) my soul and overtake(נָשַׂג) and trample (וְיִרְמֹ֣ס) to the earth my life,
And lay my honour to the dust. Selah.
7:6Arise [her] Yahweh in your anger.
Lift up because of the rage of my enemies
Arouse yourself [עוּר] the judgement (מִשְׁפָּ֥ט) you have commanded unto me.
7:7And the congregation of the peoples shall surround you
And for their sakes turn back (שׁוּב) from on high.
7:8Yahweh will judge (דִּין) [the] peoples.
Judge me (שָׁפְטֵ֥נִי), Yahweh, according to my righteousness (כְּצִדְקִ֖י)
And according to me integrity (וּכְתֻמִּ֣י), upon me.
7:9Oh let the evil of the wicked come to an end (גָּמַר )
And establish (כּוּן) the righteous (צַ֫דִּ֥יק)
and examining (בָּחַן) the hearts and inner parts (כִּלְיָה, lit. Kidneys), righteous God.
7:10My shield/defence (מָגֵן) [is] upon God, the one saving (מ֝וֹשִׁ֗יעַ) the upright (יָשָׁר ) of heart.
7:11God is a righteous judge
And God is indignant [אֵל זֹעֵם ] in all the day.
7:12If he will not turn back (יָ֭שׁוּב), his sword he will sharpen,
His bow he bends and he sets it (כּוּן)
7:13And for himself he sets instruments of death
And he makes (מָּעַל) his arrows into burning [shafts].
7:14Look, he ruinously brings forth sin (אָ֑וֶן)
And he conceives (הָרָה) trouble (עָ֝מָ֗ל)
And he bears (יָלַד) deception (שָֽׁקֶר).
7:15He digs (כָּרָה) a pit
And he dug it out (חָפַר)
And he has fallen (נָפַל) in the ditch he made (מָּעַל).
7:16His trouble ((עָ֝מָ֗ל)) will turn back (יָ֭שׁוּב) on his head
And on his scalp his violence (חֲמָס֥וֹ) will come down (יֵרֵֽד).
7:17I will praise (Hiph of יָדָה) Yahweh according to his righteousness (כְּצִדְק֑וֹ)
And I will make music (זמר) to the name of Yahweh most high.
Note on Psalm 7:4: וָאֲחַלְּצָה can mean 'pull out, tear out' (Lev 14:40, 43, of stones from infested house), or it can mean 'rescue, deliver', with object of person, but only in poetry. Some emend text to read וָאֶלְחְצָה, oppressed: BDB.
