On the first day of the new term, the students sat in the classroom, talking about their holidays. Whaea Ani asked them to write a short story about a special experience.
Tama: “We went to Rotorua. I saw the geysers erupting!”
Anahera: “I learned how to bake a cake with my mum. We baked a really delicious lemon cake.”
Whaea Ani: “Wonderful! It’s great to learn new skills. Soon we’ll read your stories together.”
The class sat down to read, to listen, and to learn from each other’s experiences and language.
