Lesson 2: First 20 minutes: Tangohia ō hū. School Karakia. Tau 7 Te Arapū Māori: A ha ka ma. Take a look at Kia Ora, Tamariki, Kākahu, Kura and Te Wā. How many words and phrases do you already know? Practise saying these in groups of two or three. I suggest: Every 5 minutes switch groups, and share your learning so you can learn from each other.
Spend the next 10 minutes choosing 5 phrases that are new to you. What strategy can you use to learn these phrases?
Spend the final 15 minutes taking a look at Takune and reflect on your past language learning in relation to the Deliberate acts of language learning model. You can write your reflection in your exercise book, or have a discussion in pairs, sharing your tips and tricks. Take time to explore this google site, and scroll down to the end of each page, enjoy! For example Tātahi starts with a short story at Year 7 Level:
Mō Tau 7: I tae mai te whānau ki te takutai. The family arrived at the beach. He rā pai. It was a nice day. Kāore he tangata i reira. No one was there. He waka kikorangi, he tawhito. The car was blue and old. Ka oma ngā tamariki ki te wai. The children ran to the water.
