1. Work at your own pace– this is your learning journey.
2. Take your time – focus on doing things carefully and neatly.
3. Learn from your mistakes – when you get something wrong, take a moment to understand why. This is how your brain grows!
4. Write your answers by hand – don’t just think it, ink it. Writing by hand helps your brain remember more.
"Handwriting activates more parts of the brain and strengthens memory and understanding."* – Mangen & Velmans (2013), Journal of Writing Research
Messy notes and visuals are also good!
Learning Is Like Spaghetti Roots Not a straight line!
Learning doesn’t go in a straight line like a train track.
It’s more like spaghetti roots underground — twisty, messy, and always growing.
You might go one way… then turn back… then find a new path.
You might make mistakes or feel stuck — that’s normal!
Every time you try again, your brain gets stronger.
Just like roots help a plant grow, your learning journey helps you grow. So take your time. Be curious.
Keep wriggling your way forward.
Learning is Like a RhizomeNot a Straight Line
Learning isn’t always tidy, and that’s okay.
It’s not a straight road from A to B — it’s more like a rhizome, like kūmara roots or underground stems. They grow outwards in lots of directions, twisting, turning, reconnecting.
Some days you’ll move fast. Other days you’ll feel stuck or go sideways.
That is learning. Mistakes, retries, detours — it’s all part of your growth.
Keep going. Pay attention.
Trust your journey.
“A rhizome has no beginning or end; it is always in the middle, between things, interbeing.” – Deleuze & Guattari (1980), A Thousand Plateaus
