NB: This is not the final version of the assessments.
Week 3 - Kōrero - Conversation
In pairs, choose an image and have a conversation about it. 3 minutes.
Ask and answer each other's questions in a relaxed, conversational way. You may use notes to help you, but try not to read from them.
The goal is fluency and natural speaking, not reading aloud.
Example Kōrero:
Hōne: Titiro! Kei te oma tētahi tama. He kākahu kahurangi tōna, ā, he tarau parauri. Kāore ōna hū! Look! A boy is running. He has a blue shirt and brown shorts. He has no shoes!
Mere: Āe! Kei te menemene ia. He ra pai tēnei. Tirohia te rākau me te pātītī! Yes! He’s smiling. It’s a nice day. Look at the trees and the grass!
Hōne: Tērā kōtiro! He hāteatea tōna kākahu hou. He ātaahua! That girl! Her new dress is pink. It’s beautiful!
Mere: Kei te harikoa ia. Tērā pea kei te kata ia! She’s happy. Maybe she’s laughing!
Mere: E hia ngā waewae kei te pikitia? How many feet are in the picture?
Hōne: E whā ngā waewae. E rua nō te tama, e rua nō te kōtiro. There are four feet. Two from the boy, two from the girl.
Hōne: He aha te āhua o te rangi? What is the weather like?
Mere: He rā pai. Kāore he kapua, he wera pea. It’s a nice day. No clouds, maybe warm.
Mere: He aha te tae o te kākahu o te tama? What is the colour of the boy’s clothes?
Hōne: He kahurangi tōna tīhāte, he parauri ōna tarau. His t-shirt is blue, his shorts are brown.
Week 4 - Whakarongo - Listening
You will be shown three images at a time.
I will describe one of the images in Te Reo Māori. Your task is to listen carefully and identify which image I am describing. You may ask me questions in Te Reo Māori to help you decide. We will repeat this for ten sets of three images.
