John 1:1-5
The Word Became Flesh
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
In the beginning God created the heavens and earth...In the very beginning Jesus was there...The Word was with God...The Word was God...He was with God in the beginning...
God created all the heavens and earth in five days...God saw that His creation was good, after the fifth day...God would make man last of all the creatures...On or right before the sixth day, God said let "us" make man in our own image in "our" likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and all the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and all over all the creatures that move along the ground (Genesis 1:24)...Moses, the author of Genesis, says God says let "us" make man in "our" own image...By using the terms "us" and "our", Moses is telling us God was in fact talking to someone...Then later Moses writes after Adam and Eve have fallen and ate the forbidden fruit, that God said the man has become like one of "us" knowing both good and evil (Genesis 3:22)...Then Moses writes about man trying to build a tower in Babel...Most of mankind, at that time, lived in Shinar, also known as Babylonia....At that time man had only one language...God did not want mankind to build a tower into the sky to reach the heavens to make a name for themselves...So He would come down, confuse man, and scatter him all over the world, and give mankind many languages...So God said come let "us" go down and confuse their language (Genesis 11:7)...Moses in both these verses uses the plural "us"...
God was talking to someone when He created the earth...He was also talking to someone when after Adam and Eve had fallen and eaten the forbidden fruit...God also was talking to someone as He watched man start to build the Tower of Babel...St. John tells us Jesus was with God in the beginning...So we know Jesus was there with God...We might conclude that God was talking to Jesus, when He created the man in His image, and in the Garden of Eden, and again at the Tower of Babel...Also we are give our first hints of the Trinity in Genesis with these comments...
