Genesis 1:26-30
Mankind is Made in God's Image
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
John 1:1-14
The Word Becomes Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Matthew 6:19-21
Treasures Are in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
God made us in His Image...And we are like Him in that respect...But we were self-centered, greedy, grumbling, and rebellious...God sent Jesus to dwell among us...And Jesus became a Man...One of the reasons that author C. S. Lewis said that God sent His Son, was that we were to be more like Him...We were to learn from Him...We were and are to raise ourselves a little bit higher...God might want us to be divine, but we haven't quite gotten there...We are focused on the earthly things and less on the spiritual and treasures of heaven much of the time...
C. S. Lewis put it this way, “[God] sees before Him in fact a self-centred, greedy, grumbling, rebellious human animal...But He says "Let us pretend that this is not a mere creature, but our Son...It is like Christ in so far as it is a Man, for He became Man...Let us pretend that it is also like Him in Spirit...Let us treat it as if it were what in fact it is not...Let us pretend in order to make the pretence into a reality."...God looks at you as if you were a little Christ: Christ stands beside you to turn you into one...I daresay this idea of a divine make believe sounds rather strange at first...But, is it so strange really?...Is not that how the higher thing always raises the lower?...A mother teaches her baby to talk by talking to it as if it understood long before it really does.”...
