John 1:1-18
The Word Becomes Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
John 14:1-14
Jesus and His Father
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
There was this separate and distinct Divine One who existed with God before the creation story in Genesis...The beginning of John's gospel echoes the words of creation and the first part of Genesis...And we quickly find out that there was Someone with God when He created the heavens and earth...In the beginning was the Word, and this Word was with God, and this Word was God...He was with God in the beginning...Through Him all things are made; without Him nothing was made that has been made...In Him is life, and that life was the Light of all mankind...The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it...
There was another Divine Spirit with God as He created the heavens and earth...There was a special relationship from the very beginning of creation between two these Two Entities...And no one has ever seen God, but the One and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known...God made His Son known to us...The Son is Himself God...The Word, this Man, Jesus, the Son of God is Himself God...The true Light that gives Light to everyone came into our world...He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him...He created the world and yet we still find it hard to see who He really is...He came to that which was His own, but His own and many did not receive Him...The world did not see Him for who He is, our Creator...This Word, the Spirit, this One God sent His Son to become flesh and make his dwelling among us on earth...John and others have seen His glory, the glory of the One and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth...This Man came from God and lived on earth...Jesus is God in the flesh...
We can see that Jesus is Divine when He talks about God and Himself to His Disciples the night of His arrest...Jesus told His Disciples do not let your hearts be troubled...You should believe in God; and believe also in Me...Jesus' Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, He would I have told them...Jesus would go to heaven to prepare a place for the Disciples...And after He had prepared that place for them, He would come back and take them to be with Him, at a later time, so that they could be with Him...Anyone who got to see Jesus got to see God, the Father...God is in Jesus, and Jesus is in God...Jesus tells us that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...And no one comes to the Father except through Him...When we really know Jesus, then we know His Father as well...And when His Disciples knew Him, then then they also knew God, as well, and have seen God...So when Philip ask Jesus, “LORD, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”...Jesus answered: “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?...Jesus said anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father...So could Philip ask, "Show us the Father"?...Jesus told Philip, "Don’t you believe that I AM in the Father, and that the Father is in Me?"...The words Jesus spoke on earth was not by His authority, but by God's authority...Rather, it is the Father, living in Jesus, who was doing His work, and speaking...So we can believe that Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus; or at least we can believe on the evidence of the miracles He did while He was on earth...Very truly Jesus told us, whoever believes in Him will do the works He did while on earth, and they will do even greater things than these, because I AM going back to the Father...And I will do whatever the Disciples would ask in His name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son...You they could ask Him for anything in His name, and He would do it...By His Words these Words, we can see He is a reflection of the Father...
We can read these words and see a most unique relationship with the Father and His Son...Love is a special relationship we have with another one...The Son of God is in the closest relationship with God...Their special relationship explains and defines what LOVE is...
