Matthew 7:24-29
A Foundation that Survives
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
John 1:1-14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Romans 1:18-23
God's Wrath Against Humanity
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
Jesus said that we need a strong foundation in life...He said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock...The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock...But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand...The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”...
Paul and John built their lives on sold foundation...When Paul wrote to the Romans about creation, he saw the world and all the things around him as something personal for man and in creation he saw a belief system that helped him better see that there was Someone at the Source of all things that have been made...John saw and got to know Jesus and related Him to creation...John said that Jesus was with God when He spoke the universe into existence in the beginning...And not only was He with God but all things have been made through Jesus...These two men saw all the things around us as a belief and that these things did not just come to us by chance...These men saw the Truth in nature and the world and believed God had created all things...They saw creation as a mystery, with God behind it all...Both men had faith in God and His Son...
Science takes a different perspective, and we have learned much from science...Science looks at creation and those things that have been created and tries to understand the different things that have been created...Science even gives us there perspective on creation and said that the universe all started with some chemicals mixing and causing a Big Bang, and out of this Bang, life came into existence and billions of years later, man evolved from the simplest of life forms from this Big Bang...No doubt in the next several years, God willing, science will give us much more knowledge about the universe, man, and many things that are currently invisible to our imaginations, but will become discovered at a later time...Science seems to be almost synonymous with modern and the modern times...Science helps fulfill a void in our curiosity and helps us better understanding those things created...Scientists help us better understand the universe around us...Science will no doubt help us better understand the world around us, but also will help us live longer and better understand the brain and all its powers...Science will keep on giving us more and newer gadgets and things...But science has a problem explaining, faith, love, and a Moral World...
Science is not a faith or a belief, or a foundation to build one's moral life on...And so we have an understanding of man and science taking us and grabbing our excitement with new technologies and modern advances, and yet we have the old and complete understandings of the Current and Living God...Jesus taught very much about God and saw Him and currently sees Him as this -the Current and Living God...He taught about love, righteousness, justice, forgiveness, mercy, and morality...Jesus taught us there is this Moral Order with a Kingdom of Heaven awaiting...Jesus, Paul, and John saw all these things as current and modern and alive...
