Malachi 4:1-6
The Son of Righteousness
“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them. 2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. 3 Then you will trample on the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty.
4 “Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.
5 “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”
John 1:1-14
The True Light that Gives Light to Everyone
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 8:12
Jesus is the Light of this World
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 9:5
While Jesus is in this World, He is the Light
5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Revelation 21:9-27
9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits thick. 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Many years before Jesus was born, the Prophet Malachi wrote about a Light that was coming...This Light, this Messiah, this Man would be called by the Prophet, the Sun of Righteousness...And in His Light and His rays would provide much healing...And this Sun and Son of Righteousness would heal many in the wake of His Light...This Light is the Son of God...
So when Jesus was born, not only was hope born, the Light of this World was born...And as St. John tells us, He became flesh and walked the earth...He is the True Light that gives Light to everyone and He came into this world to teach us much about His Father and Himself...He was in the world for approximately thirty three years and taught for three of those years...And though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him...And though many did not recognize Him as the True Messiah and the One that Malachi wrote about, He was and is the One to come...And His teachings were the greatest words that were ever spoke, and He spoke mighty and astounding words that will never pass away...There is no other Light...
If there is no Light there is no Life...Without the things that were made through Him, they cannot live without the Light...No plants can grow in total darkness, and animals in total darkness would struggle to survive...So is the Light of Life...He is the Light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness or any type has not overcome it...Without the Light man would not exist...
In the next world, the world to come is Heaven...God will be our Light then...Heaven does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it Light, and the Lamb, His Son is its Lamp...The glory of God will lighten our new home...And it is very possible, that there will be no sun, no moon, and no stars to give us Light, but our new world will be brighter than ever before...Both God and His Son's Glory will continue to be the Light...Their Glory will be radiant and glowing is the most beautiful of Living Lights...Everything will be so bright and so beautiful...Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life...
