Luke 20:37-38
God is Living
37 But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ 38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
John 1:1-14
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 17:1-3
Knowing Jesus and His Father
1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Jesus is a real person...Jesus came to earth...St. John teaches us that when He came to earth, He was (and is the Word)...The Word became flesh...Jesus became flesh...He lived among John and the other disciples...He died, then He resurrected...He is alive, again...His Father is alive...So He is the Son of the Living God...
Jesus in some of His teachings would say those who have ears let them hear...But the teachers of the law and the Pharisees were there with Jesus in the flesh, and they did not hear...We want to hear Him, but also to get to know Him...
Sometimes this is hard, and is hard to feel...But when we think about it, maybe it isn't so hard to feel this when we think about it in terms of those we have lost...For those of us whose parents have passed away, grandparents, or friends that have passed away years ago, there are similarities in how we feel about these situations and in our relationship in knowing Jesus...Our parents who have moved on to Jesus and His Father maybe several years removed from us, and there physicalness is also removed from us...Jesus is two thousand years removed from us, and His physicalness is also removed from us...Our deceased family members and friends were and are real...Jesus and His Father are alive...God is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him we are alive...The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us...Then resurrected and He is still real and alive...But the time that passes, can give us an unreal and maybe an out of touch feeling in us and He may feel remote (and not real)...But God is the author of time...He came do anything with time that He needs and want...Jesus can make all things new...We must use and spiritually exercise our minds, our memories, and open our ears so they can hear...We have to open our minds to this, and to pray...
All we have to do to have eternal life is to know God and Jesus Christ that He (God) has sent and made His Son's dwelling among us...It is somewhat like that old friend, make that an old Divine Friend that has passed on...He is removed, but never forgotten...Jesus doesn't say the meaning of life and eternal life is do things for God...Our duty and goal is to know Him...To know the Only True God, is our life's goal...He is alive...A Divine Friend waiting to hear from us, through our prayers...
