John 1:1-14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
In the Gospel of John, he starts his gospel telling us that: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”...As John continues to write about the Word we learn this Word (who is Jesus) was with God and has been with God from the beginning...All that was created was created through Him...This Word is Life and Light, is not understood or recognized by the darkness...So in the beginning was the Word,” and the meaning of the Word can be traced back through the Old Testament...And throughout the entire Bible the Word is Holy and Sacred...The Word has a Special Relationship with God...
The Word is Eternal...The Word is Unique and One, because there is only One True God...The Word is Sacred and Holy...The Word identifies with God...The Word is Personal...The Son of God is the Word and is with God and is One with God...
Today, it seems that the Word and what we believe and have faith in is not so sacred and holy...We have a crisis learning and knowing and recognizing the Word...The Word we have faith in and what we say in our Words are not significant...The Holy and Sacred Word has taken a back seat to our earthly, material, fleshy things...When the Word falls to a lower level the we as a culture fall with it...Our well being and faith and hope and our love depend on the Word staying Sacred and Holy...The Words we speak must remain in the Truth, both Sacred and Holy...
Mankind struggles with His Word...God's Word is a Complete Wholeness, so the Word has this Wholeness, this LOVE, this Grace, this Truth...
St. John saying that Jesus is the Word shows us that Jesus is Eternal...He is the Alpha and the Omega...John walked with Jesus and heard Him and watched Him for three years...John learned that Jesus was the One...The purpose of the Word is that we can believe He was the One to come...He is the Messiah...And John's Gospel and the remaining three Gospels go about showing us how "In the Beginning is the Word" is a True and Faithful Statement...
