John 1:1-4
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
Proverbs 8:22-36
Wisdom and Jesus
22 “The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works,
before his deeds of old;
23 I was appointed from eternity,
from the beginning, before the world began.
24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth,
when there were no springs abounding with water;
25 before the mountains were settled in place,
before the hills, I was given birth,
26 before he made the earth or its fields
or any of the dust of the world.
27 I was there when he set the heavens in place,
when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
28 when he established the clouds above
and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
29 when he gave the sea its boundary
so the waters would not overstep his command,
and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
30 Then I was the craftsman at his side.
I was filled with delight day after day,
rejoicing always in his presence,
31 rejoicing in his whole world
and delighting in mankind.
32 “Now then, my sons, listen to me;
blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
do not ignore it.
34 Blessed is the man who listens to me,
watching daily at my doors,
waiting at my doorway.
35 For whoever finds me finds life
and receives favor from the LORD.
36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself;
all who hate me love death.”
Matthew 7:24-25
Wisdom in His Words
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
God is infinite wisdom...And Jesus personified this wisdom...He was wisdom in the flesh...The words He spoke were always wise...He was the wisest Man to ever walk our earth (if it fair to call Him a Man)...Those who follow His words and use His words are wise...He actually teaches this in Matthew...Jesus is speaking to His followers and disciples about wisdom...Jesus puts this statement very bluntly, when we study it...He says if we hear His words, and put them into practice, then we are wise...Notice that He does not say someone else's words, but He says these words of Mine...He is being exclusive about Himself...He is personally claiming that we can be wise by listening to Him and doing the things He does...He was One Teacher...What type of Man or Teacher would say this?...It is very much like, when He says, no one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6)...Jesus is a unique and exclusive individual...Jesus has the most unique and exclusive personality...No One is quite like Him...How can He say these things, and yet still be humble at the same time?...Yet, He did and He was?...
St. Paul teaches us to study Him, so we may get closer to Him, and when we do we will be wiser...
And when we read His statements and teachings, they are not all made at His death, and dying on the cross...They are not made at just one time in His life...He makes these unique statements, all throughout His ministry and in His teachings of His followers and disciples...He just wasn't wise at one time, but throughout the four gospels, He shows wisdom in its purest and best form, and yet in the most humblest of ways...
As we read through the Scriptures, Jesus seems to be the One Solomon is writing about in Proverbs...Jesus seems to be not only Truth, but also Wisdom...The LORD brought forth Wisdom in the beginning...Jesus was with God in the beginning...He was appointed from eternity, from the beginning...Before God formed the mountains, He was born...He was the Craftsman at God's side...He rejoiced in God's Presence...Listen to My Instructions and be wise...Blessed is the man who listens to Me...For whoever finds Him, finds life...For in Him is life (John 1:3)...Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6)...Jesus stood up two thousand years ago, and told us He was Truth...For me, He also stood up and told us, He is also Wisdom, and Wisdom in the flesh...
