Peter Tierney may have been a jockey from Ireland but he does not appear to have ridden any winners there. In Britain, he had 21 rides during the 1954/55 National Hunt season and was successful once.
His sole victory came at Carlisle on October 9, 1954, when Two Stars beat nine rivals to land the Derwentwater Handicap Hurdle. The five-year-old was running in England for the first time, having won at Naas the previous March, while Peter, who did not partner the horse in Ireland, was having his first ride in England. He brought the mare home five lengths clear of Topsail, ridden by leading amateur Danny Moralee, having taken the lead approaching the last flight.
He kept the ride for Two Star’s next start, finishing a well-beaten fourth at Manchester on December 4, before the vastly more experienced George Slack took over in the saddle. Peter’s final ride that season was at Cartmel on May 28, when he was unseated from Wool Oaks in the Furness Handicap Chase.
He subsequently took out a licence for the 1959/60 season but had few opportunities. They included two rides on Green Turban, finishing unplaced in handicap hurdles at Birmingham and Manchester in February 1960.
