Counter builds rely on counter rate to avoid attacks and deal DMG back to the enemy. Counter rate is not calculated in EP.
Counter works by each counter chance being an individual attempt to gain one counter stack. When receiving an attack (failing to block and dodge), the counter stack will be consumed, countering the attack.
Disadvantages:
Requires micro-management for best effects
Rng-reliant
May lack DMG when overly defensive (Shaman)
Offers passive counter chance
Buffs / Mana gain after countering
Ability offers permanent DMG buffs while offering high survivability
Offers guaranteed counter stack gain after using ability
High cost ability
Grants shield and freezing on demand
Synergistic only with specific items

Counter-type additional rings:
Titan's Band (Rare) : Current HP % heal after countering *
Thorn Script (Mythical) : Sacrificial counter *
Crimson Talon (Unique) : Permanent CD boost after countering *
Niche:
Storm's Caress (Unique) : Counter chance for non-crit playstyles
Glyph of Growth (Mythical) : Counter chance after receiving critical hit

Weapon: Depends on your playstyle.

Rotation: Spam DEFEND for the more counters. When near death use class ability for guaranteed counters. If the enemy is defensive and you survive, use class ability early on for DPS buffs.

Rotation: Spam ATTACK instead of DEFEND most of the time. The rest is similar to survivability build. This style would be utilizing the passive counter chance as more DPS potential instead of relying on it fully.
Armor: Depends on preference
SS: Gepard, Juliette, Nao Tomori, Mash Burnedead (⭐ Can't use Class Skill)
EX: Isolde EX, Gintoki EX
In general, anyone with effects for countering or innate counter chance buffs

Legendary: Azure Blade / Grand Staff of Cataclysm > Polar Star (Requires a critical hit, unreliable) / Usurper (Insignificant)
Mythical: Mystic Moon / Crescent Skies / Sirene's Song (best) / Dreadknight (100% CRIT)
Genesis: Astral Cutlass
Shield: Shield of Chivalry / The Castlemaiden / Tyranny (If you are lacking DMG)
You'd want to use the class ability once every 4 turns for the counter stacks
Abilities that can stall the enemy, or offer high dodge, can allow for more effective counter stacking
Armor: Tidal (Mythical) / Merman (Legendary, only if you aren't running shield of chivalry)
SS: Gepard, Juliette, Nao Tomori
EX: Boa Hancock EX
In general, anyone with effects for countering or innate counter chance buffs
Weapon:
Syfing (Legendary) (If you don't already have a shield equipped)
Else, use any Drain/DPS weapon
Shield: Shield of Chivalry (Legendary) / Any other shield you have
