JT WR for Lindström

Lindström sets a world record in the javelin

Sports Ground, Eksjö, Sweden, October 12, 1924

The two-time Olympic javelin champion, Jonni Myyrä, exited the stage at the close of the 1924 season. Facing financial difficulties, he left for America. In his absence, his world record was broken in Sweden. Olympic silver medalist Gunnar Lindström set a new world record of 66.62 meters (218-7) in Eksjö.

The new record came on his fourth throw. Lindström was in great form, with all six attempts surpassing 60 meters. The javelin used was slightly overweight by 7 grams.
