Tuulos Misses World Record by Just a Few Centimetres
Borås, Sweden, 6 July 1923
Olympic champion Vilho Tuulos continued his Scandinavian competition tour after Gothenburg with a meet in Borås. There, he leapt to a world-leading mark and a Finnish record of 15.48 metres (50-9 1/2), falling just a few centimetres short of Dan Ahearne’s world record, which had stood for over a decade.
Tuulos's jump remained the Finnish record for 16 years, until Onni Rajasaari broke it in 1939.
