'cheesy quote'

All around the globe.

If we look at labeling an artificial creature we tend to think about artificial ‘living’ objects on which we can project anthropomorphic feelings. Where the object is a materialistic ‘thing’ with possible functionalities, by projecting human emotions or characteristics to it we subjectify this object into an artificial creature - which then is human-like. But where we draw the line for subjectifying objects into artificial creatures is personal and a grey area.

You could try and divide artificial creatures, which are called robots in the more old school way, in multiple ways. Subjective vs objective relationships and non-robots vs robots. Where the subjective vs. objective relationship is more on a personal note related to the amount of human projection since a subjectified object is still an object. Whereby the non-robot vs. robots is more related to the amount of projection ‘designed’ by the makers of the bot, where they influence the amount of projection that is being perceived.

Home is where the projection is.

Talking about cliché, when we look at an example of a non-robot that is subjectified I could also say my room, which might sound strange but I do project feelings towards my room. I know all the inns and outs, every crack, all the objects within my room. I miss my room when I am gone, I feel a warm blanket over my body when I have been separated for a long time from my room. My room gives me emotion, my room gives me joy, my room gave me memories, my room gives me pain in the ass sometimes. I project feelings onto my room, my room projects feelings upon me, I subjectified my room.

I think possibly anything can be an artificial creature, but this will never be seen like this across every mind on earth. We subjectify different objects based on our preferences and (cultural) biases. If we look at western society we might be more tempted to subjectify technology where in other cultures they are more likely to objectify these objects. It’s based on the perception of the viewer and his relationship with the object. Of course, there are huge differences in the levels of projection towards objects, but still, when creative enough anything can be an artificial creature whether this comes natural or forced.
