Iris presents herself as a Conceptual and Social Critical designer. She finds that, to form an opinion about the (abstract) technologies that influence and shape our lives, we all need to be critical. That means we need to be able to talk about it. Iris wants to create a conversation about a topic, such as the impact of facial recognition, or the desire for longevity, in a way that a large group of people will understand. She wants people to think about the risks of technologies so that they have an opportunity to base behavior on pros and cons, instead of acting because of a lack of awareness. Thereby, she believes that approaching a topic positively makes it easier to talk about. As a designer, you could say she has a role as an interpreter. She translates a topic into a visual experience, without judging or imposing her opinion.

CLAM-MAN (500+)
Who wants to live forever?

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be? CLAM-MAN is a genetically modified superhuman being. It’s superpower? Being incredibly old. On this earth, there are animals capable of living for a long time, much longer than humans. The oldest known animal is a clam, that died unfortunately at the age of 500+ years old, when researchers opened her shell. She is the great inspiration for the cocktail of clam and human genes in CLAM-MAN’s DNA. In the search for longevity, living up to 500+ is a dream come true. But we have to face reality, how are we going to be financially stable for all these years?
