behind bars - part 10
At breakfast, I tell Harry everything about my parents' call. The disgusted look on his face is simply indescribable. As mean as I may sometimes come across, Harry is the only person I truly care about. Well, Harry and Olivia. And I think he's the only person who truly loves me. I wonder if Olivia loves me, too.
The disgust on his face comes from his pure hatred he has for my parents. And he's right. They were racist to him, and would still be if I hadn't stopped them. He is also the only one who ever tried to stand up against them for how they're treating me.
He cursed them out and I laughed.
"You know, Liv was telling me about her family last night. They're really close. She talked to them on the phone twice and only hang up because she was with me."
"Liv? Is that a nickname?" he asks, completely dismissing what I was trying to say.
I roll my eyes, "Yes, that is a nickname. As I was saying,"
"So you're in love love?" He bats his eyes, evidently just trying to make fun of me because of how pathetically happy I am.
"Yes, I am in love love, now stop because I didn't act like this when you first started dating Alicia."
He looks at me amused, "Yes, you're right. Instead you shamed me because 'love is for the weak', 'only pathetic people are in love', 'love is a lie', 'she will break up with you and shame you', 'you will come crying on my shoulder and I will have to say 'I told you so''.
"Well, love is for the weak. Have you seen me since I met this girl? I'm a mess!"
He smiles at me, "A happy mess. And I'd take that as a best friend over the stuck up EGOT winner every day."
"Thank you for using my full title." I wink as I check my phone.
Olivia texted me, "Want to meet me up for coffee near my university in an hour?"
Do I want that? MORE THAN ANYTHING.
"Yeah, sure, could you send me the address or something?"
She sends it and texts me, "See you there, then 🫶"
She sent me a heart. SHE SENT ME A HEART!
I cannot make sense of what's going on as Alicia sits down and says, "Morning, boys."
I slam my phone against the table and basically yell, "She sent me a hand heart emoji what do I say back?"
Alicia grabs my phone, types something and then says, "Done."
I look and she told her, "Counting down the minutes"
"WHY did you send her that? It is pathetic. I would lose interest."
"Calm down."
And then my phone gets another notification, "Me, too, haha"
Oh. It wasn't bad, then.
I order an Uber and get there 30 minutes before. I wait outside and I walk up to her when I finally see her.
She hugs me and kisses me. I think I'm floating.
We chat over coffee. Well, I drink coffee. She drinks hot chocolate. "Caffeine makes me sick, like my heart starts pounding," she explains.
I'm so lost in her eyes as she's telling me about how her parents are going to Paris for their wedding anniversary, so her sister and her are babysitting their baby brother for a couple of days, and if I'd like to meet them, I don't even notice my parents came out of nowhere until my mother clears her throat, and says:
"Sorry to interrupt. We just need to have a quick chat with Adam, that's all."
I literally cannot deal with this right now. She smiles at them and says, "Oh, okay."
I cut in and say, "No, it is not okay. I believe I've made myself extremely clear over the phone. Let's go, Liv."
I grab her hand and we walk out.
This love is stronger than them.
