Journalism- Sanity

Original Photo

Edited Photo

For this assignment we were told to take a photo that represented sanity during this pandemic. When I first saw this assignment I didn't even know what sanity meant and I had to think hard. Once I figured out what it meant I had to think of something that has kept me "sane" during the pandemic. There were multiple things like reading, family, work, drawing..etc but the one thing that has kept me sane and will always keep me sane is running. With that being said I grabbed my running shoes and set them up in the grass to take a photo. I wanted to make sure my spikes were included so I put one shoe on the ground and the other one top with the spikes showing and then got down low so I could take a photo from an angle above.

After I chose the photo I put it into photoshop and tried to edit as much as I could. There wasn't a lot as you can see from the two photos. The first thing I did was I used the eraser and got rid of the grass that was in front of the shoe on the ground because I didn't like how it was covering it. Then I went to the filter gallery and put on a filter called "Paint Daubs" but I put everything on the lowest notch so that it didn't get blurry and look bad. All it really did was sharpen and darken the edges and black spots on the photo but I think it helped it all stand out more so that the grass and background isn't taking the focus away and you can tell that teh running shoes are the main idea of the photo.

Lastly, I think this photo came out good and shows sanity well for me during all of this. I like the way I positioned the shoes and how the photo came out. I do wish I could've edited it more and make it stand out even more but there wasn't that much to change. I could've also used a different thing to show sanity during this pandemic and that could've possibly stood out more. But, overall I like how this photo came out and how my photography skills helped me take it.
