Sunday 3rd September 2023 -
Waggoners members past and present, along with their friends from other Clubs etc., attended David and Janet's Golden Wedding Anniversary and had a great evening dancing to Simon and Trudy.
Monday 4th September 2023 - On behalf of the Club, Sue presented flowers and a card signed by the members to Janet and David in recognition of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. On a warm evening we danced two squares to Trudy and Simon. The music this evening was chosen by Janet and David for their Anniversary Dance - there hadn't been time on the night to get through all their choices!
Thursday 7th September 2023 Herts Sports & Physical Activity Partnership sent out invitations to U3A members and other organisations across Hertfordshire to the "Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire Celebration Day" which took place at the University of Hertfordshire and Hertfordshire Sports Village.
The event’s aim was to promote the importance of physical activity for living longer better, and to heighten awareness of the range of opportunities available for getting and staying active aimed at those adults aged 50+.
The event ran from 9.30am-3.30pm. The day featured a number of talks, interactive workshops, marketplace and practical physical activity and sports sessions.
Our Chairman, Bob, and his wife, Penny, registered through Ware U3A and were able to obtain a small display table in the marketplace which enabled the promotion of Waggoners Square Dance Club. There was also a laptop on the table which showed square dancers performing.
Regrettably, Penny was unable to attend the event due to illness but she has subsequently written to the organisers to see if any further opportunities to promote square dancing are possible. Bob and Penny will continue to follow up any leads made on the day or as a result of other correspondence.
Friday 8th - Sunday 10th September 2023 - Barbara, Jackie, Keith, Janet, David, Martin and Hazel spent a very hot weekend in Torquay dancing "A" to Paul Bristow and Bronc Wise. They are pictured with the Callers and Bronc's Swedish wife, Fia.
Monday 11th September 2023 - On another warm evening we danced two squares with the playground doors open to Trudy and Simon. During David's guest tip, most unusually, Trudy and Simon danced in a square together.
Monday 18th September 2023 - On a noticeably colder evening than of late (Ann and Brian even forwent their shorts in favour of long trousers!) we danced two squares to Trudy and Simon. Karen danced with us for the last time before she moves away to the Bournemouth area. She brought cakes for everyone and we presented her with a personalised card, hand made by Sue and signed by us all, urging Karen to "Keeeeep Dancing!" At the end of the evening, to Karen's delight, David S fashioned her a balloon flower.
Friday 22nd September - Sunday 24th September 2023 - David, Jackie, Ann, Bob, Brian, Penny, Janet and Keith went to the Hogsmill Squares Bournemouth Bonanza at the Marsham Court Hoteldancing Plus and A1 to Granville Spencer and Ian Turvill. On Sunday David and Penny took part in the Open Mic morning and both received rapturous applause for their singing calls.
