A1 Genève - St. Margrethen

Sections:

1 Genève - Bern

Increasing from 0 at border with France (A41) to 168 at Wankdorfdreieck

Old white sign for km 37 in VD

2 Bern - Zürich

Increasing from 0 at Wankdorfdreieck to 104.6 at border Aargau - Zürich

Notable fact:

In AG, values 82 and 83 are wrongly indicated as motorway numbers.

In Bern, the carriageways are sometimes referred to as 'R' and 'L' (Right and Left seen in the increasing direction).

Here the direction Zürich is indicated instead

km 83 wrongly signposted in a motorway number shield, 'A83'

3 Zürich - St. Margrethen

Increasing from 287.6 at border AG-ZH to 406.8 at A13 in St. Margrethen

Notable fact:

406.8 is the highest km value in Switzerland.

End of A1 and start of A13

A2 Basel - Chiasso

Sections:

1 Basel - Härkingen

Increasing from 0 at border with Germany (A5) to 43 at Verzweigung Härkingen (A1)

Old sign for km 17 with green N2 shield

(multiplex with A1)

2 Wiggertal - Seelisberg

Increasing from 49.3 at Verzweigung Wiggertal to 123.4 in Seelisbergtunnel at border Nidwalden - Uri

3 Seelisberg - Gotthard

Increasing from 134 in Seelisbergtunnel at border Nidwalden - Uri to 181 in Gotthard tunnel at border Uri - Ticino

4 Seelisberg - Gotthard

Decreasing from 115.1 in Gotthard tunnel at border Uri - Ticino to 0 in Chiasso at border with Italy (A9)

A3 Basel - Sargans

Sections:

1 Basel

Increasing from 0 at border with France (A35) to 3.5 at Verzweigung Wiese (A2)

(multiplex with A2)

2 Augst

Increasing from 14.1 at Verzweigung Augst (A2) to 14.6 at border Basel-Land - Aargau

Notable facts:

Values inherited from A2.

With 0.5 km this is the shortest section.

The 14.6 km sign is actually across the border in Aargau.

3 Aargau

Increasing from 15.8 at border Basel-Land - Aargau to Verzweigung Birrfeld (A1)

(multiplex with A1)

4 Zürich - Reichenburg

Increasing from 89.6 at Limmattaler Kreuz (A1) to 149.1 at border Schwyz - St. Gallen

New sign for km 92

Values in Schwyz and St. Gallen have a gap of about 300 m.

5 Reichenburg - Sargans

Increasing from 149.5 at border Schwyz - St. Gallen to 195.3 in Verzweigung Sarganserland (A13)

The carriageways are far apart on a section of about 7 km between 163 and 170.

A4 Bargen - Altdorf

Sections:

1 Bargen - Winterthur

Increasing from 0 at border with Germany (B27) to 39.8 at Verzweigung Winterthur-Nord (A1)

Sign with one decimal in Schaffhausen

(multiplex with A1)

The section in the Limmattaler Kreuz (A1/A3) is treated as a ramp between A1 and A3 and the A4 has no continuing kilometerage.

(multiplex with A3)

2 Zürich - Zug

Increasing from 40.3 at Dreieck Zürich - West (A3) to 56.6 at border Zürich - Zug

4 Zug - Brunnen

Increasing from 92.6 at border Zürich - Zug

Notable fact:

In principle the values are inherited from the first section from Bargen, but they were assigned when the N4 was still planned to go through the city center of Zürich, and therefore along the actual A4 the values are about 7 km too low.

5 Flüela bypass

No kilometer values known on this section.

A5 Yverdon - Solothurn

Sections:

1 Yverdon - La Neuveville

Increasing from 0 at Échangeur Yverdon (A1) to 60 at Twann.

Notable facts:

There are no signs in Neuchatel. Values are interpolated.

The missing part between La Neuveville and Ligerz has cantonal kilometer values consistent with the future A5.

2 Biel - Solothurn

Increasing from 74.3 at Verzweigung Bözingenfeld (A16) to 100 at Verzweigung Luterbach (A1)

A6 Biel - Wimmis

Notable facts:

One of two cases where the same values (0 to 28.5) exist twice in the same canton (Bern).

Sections:

1 Biel - Schönbühl

Decreasing from 28.5 in Biel to 0 at Verzweigung Schönbühl (A1)

Old sign at the beginning of the highway

(multiplex with A1)

3 Bern - Wimmis

A7 Attikon - Kreuzlingen

Increasing from 0 at Verzweigung Attikon to 34.1 at border with Germany (B33 spur)

A8/N8 Lattigen - Lopper

Sections:

1 Lattigen - Brienzwiler

Increasing from 0 at Verzweigung Lattigen to 40.3 at exit Brienzwiler

Notable fact:

The missing sections between Faulensee and Lättigen also have kilometer signs with a motorway shield. The Brünig section has this too.

Motorway 8 shield on km 16 sign along highway 6/11

2 N8 / H4 Brienzwiler - Brünig

Increasing from 40.3 at Brienzwiler to 46.5 at Brünig, border between Bern and Obwalden

3 Lungern bypass

Increasing from 58 at exit Lungern-Süd to 62 at exit Lungern-Nord

4 Giswil - Lopper

Increasing from 65.4 at Giswil to 86.8 at Verzweigung Lopper (A2)

A9/N9 Vallorbe - Simplon

Notable fact:

One of two cases where the same values exist twice in the same canton (Vaud): 0.6 to 17 are on the first two sections.

In addition, the same values also exist near Brig in Valais.

Sections:

1 Vallorbe - Essert-Pittet

Increasing from 0.6 at Vallorbe to 17 at exit Échangeur Essert-Pittet (A1)

Notable fact:

The value 0 is at the border with France but the expressway does not start at the border.

(multiplex with A1)

2 Lausanne - Sierre

Increasing from 0 at Échangeur Villars-Ste-Croix (A1) to 131 at Steg. Gap between Sierre and Leuk.

3 Visp - Brig

Increasing from 147.3 at Eyholz to 150.2 at Brig

4 N9 Brig - Simplon

Increasing from 0 at Brig to 42.5 at border with Italy (SS33)

Notable fact: On the non-expressway part, km signs appear with '9S' for Simplon.

A12 Vevey - Bern

Increasing from 0 at Échangeur La Veyre (A9) to 77.9 at Verzweigung Weyermannshaus (A1)

A13 St. Margrethen - Ascona

Sections:

1 St. Margrethen - Bellinzona

Decreasing from 188.7 at A1 in St. Margrethen to 0 at Svincolo Bellinzona-Nord (A2)

Old sign with number N13.

Notable fact:

The Roveredo bypass is longer than the original road and hence km values do not add up.

2 Bellinzona - Ascona

Increasing from 7 at Locarno Airport to 19 in Ascona

Notable fact:

The planned missing link between Locarno Airport and the A2 at Bellinzona is 1 to 2 km longer than 7 km, so the values apparently do not take this into account. Not starting at 0 does avoid having the same values on both section of the A13 within canton Ticino, as the other section ends at the border with Graubünden at 3.7.

A14 Rotsee - Rütihof

Increasing from -0.3 at Verzweigung Rotsee to 15.1 at Verzweigung Rütihof

Notable fact:

Has the only known signposted negative values.

Sign with negative value -0.1

Old sign with A-number added, in the foreground a cantonal km sign is visible

A16 Boncourt - Biel

Increasing from 0 at border with France to 82.7 at Verzweigung Bözingenfeld (A5) and from 83.7 in the decreasing direction.

Notable facts:

The distance between km 70 and km 71 is 2 km!

The carriageways are far apart between La Heutte and Biel, and the northbound carriageway is about a km longer, therefore the section near Bözingenfeld has values differing by more than 1000 m in the two directions.

A18 Zwingen - Basel

Increasing from 24 at Nenzlingen to 39 at Birsfelden. Gap between Grellingen and Aesch.

Notable facts:

The road does not have exit numbering, and the kilometer values increase to the north starting from 0 in Delémont.

Old sign with H-number

A22 Liestal - Sissach

Increasing from 0.5 at exit Liestal of the A2/A3 to 13.6 in Sissach

Old sign with H2 in green

A50 Glattfelden bypass

Increasing from 4.2 west of Glattfelden to 8.2 east of Glattfelden

The A50 never used to appear on signs, but new km signs show it

A51 Bülach - Zürich

Decreasing from 14.6 at Bülach to 0 at Dreieck Zürich-Nord

A52 Zumikon - Hinwil

Increasing from 3.5 at Zumikon to 21 at Verzweigung Hinwil (A53)

Adminstrative use of kilometerage on A52

A53 Brüttisellen - Reichenburg

Sections:

1 Brüttisellen - Uster

Increasing from 14.3 at Brüttisellen to 27.2 at Uster

2 Hinwil - Reichenburg

Increasing from 50 at Verzweigung Hinwil (A52) to 72 at Reichenburg (A3)

Notable fact:

The planned section between Uster and Hinwil is much shorter than the gap of 23 km in the kilometerage.

A1a Perly - Bellevue

Notable facts:

The northern part inherits values from the A1, while the southern part does not.

Normally km 0 is positioned where centrelines of the motorways meet, but here km 0 is at the point where the ramps from the A1 join, leading to negative values (which are not signed).

Exit numbering is from south to north, presumably for consistency with the A1.

Sections:

1 A1a Perly-GE

Increasing from -0.5 at Échangeur Perly (A1) to 4 in Genève

2 A1a GE-north

Increasing from 13.5 north of Genève to 15.6 at the A1 in Bellevue

Green km sign

A1.1 Arbon - Rorschach

Decreasing from 8.9 at Frasnacht to 0 at Verzweigung Meggenhus (A1)

A1H Limmattal - Zürich

Increasing from 1 at Limmattaler Kreuz (A1/A3) to 7.6 at Hardturm in Zürich

Start of the motorway at km 7.6

A1L Zürich - Wallisellen

Decreasing from 5.7 at Letten in Zürich to 1 at Dreieck Zürich-Ost (A1/A4)

A3a Rheinfelden

Increasing from 10 at border with Germany (A861) to 11 at Verzweigung Rheinfelden-West (A3)

Notable facts:

The start value is set at 10 presumably to avoid duplication with the German A861, but the latter has values increasing to the north from 0.

The number A3a is never signposted but can appear on variable message signs.

A3W Wiedikon - Manegg

Decreasing from 3.6 in Zürich-Wiedikon to 0 at Dreieck Zürich-Süd (A3)

Ramp km sign in Dreieck Zürich-Süd

A4a Cham - Baar

Increasing from 0 at Verzweigung Blegi (A4) to 8.5 at Sihlbrugg

E23 Lausanne

Increasing from 64.9 at Échangeur d'Eculblens (A1) to 69.4 at Lausanne

Notable facts:

Inherited from A1.

The road is only signposted as E23 but has an administrative number A1a.

E27 Martigny

Increasing from 0 at Échangeur du Grand Saint-Bernard to 5 south or Martigny

E41/E54 Thayngen-Schaffhausen

Increasing from 0 at border with Germany to 7.9 at Verzweigung Mutzentäli (A4)

Notable facts:

The distance between km 6 and km 7 is only 800 m.

The road is only signposted with its E numbers but has an administrative number J15.

km 1 on the J15

H5 Aarau

Increasing from 0 in Aarau to 6.7 in Rupperswil

T14 Grüneck-Bonau

Increasing from 0.4 at Dreieck Grüneck (A7) to 3.3 at Bonau

The number T14 only appears on km signs

Number T1 on exit ramp from the A1 southbound to the Kirchberg bypass
