General description: The A1, A2 and A3 are main roads from the capital Colombo.
These numbers have an additional A which is for administration only. AB roads are supplementary roads and AC roads are short connections. It is not known whether these appear on signs.
Road signs: White with black text, green with white text on main roads. Road numbers appear in circles on old signs but in plain text on new (green) signs.
Motorways have blue signs with white text and road numbers in rectangles. On these signs the A and B numbers are always written with leading zeroes (e.g. A004 instead of A4 on signs on the road itself).
