Dorinda got this cookie recipe from her in-laws years ago and makes them now for our family every Christmas. Christmas wouldn't be the same without them! One year she had to make two triple batches, because the first one got eaten up before Christmas!
2/3 c butter
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c milk
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
4 c flour
TRIPLE BATCH
2 c butter
3 c sugar
6 eggs
3/4 c milk
1 Tbsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
12 c flour
Cream the butter and sugar together, then beat in the eggs.
Blend the milk with the baking soda, then add the salt. Add to creamed mixture.
Stir in the flour slowly and mix.
Chill half an hour.
Flour your work surface and roll the dough to about 1/8 - 1/4 inch thick.
Flour your cookie cutters and cut out the cookies.
Bake at 350°F for 8 minutes.
Cool completely and cover with a vanilla (confectioners sugar and milk) glaze and, if desired, nonpareils or holiday-colored decorating sugar.
