Boston area radio channel usage
Boston Police - patrol units stay on their home channel (district
channel) - unless they do chit chat on Ch 7 - unless they run a
license plate on the Info channel - unless they are directed to use Ch
1 for a major incident or a parade or riot etc - they might have the
BAPERN channels but I dont think they know how to use them at all
Boston Ambulance - units stay on the home channel (462.975 R) - unless
they do a quick short range message on the simplex channel (458.0875
?) - unless they have a long message (462.95 R) - unless they are at a
major incident or special event (460.55R) - unless they want to talk
to a hospital or doctor (463.075R CMED) - unknown if they have any
mutual aid channels - they did have BFD Ch 4 a couple of years ago
Boston Fire - units stay on the home channel (Ch 1 483.1625R) - unless
they go to a FG channel (Ch2 or Ch3 or Ch4) - unless they go to Ch 4
for a tunnel incident - unless they go to a nearby FD freq for a
mutual aid call - unless they go to Ch 3 for a hazmat call - unless
they go to a simplex channel when the repeaters dont reach inside a
bld - unless they go to MetroFire Red (483.3125R as a spare FG
channel) - unless they go to a BFD District Channel (??? - disasters)
- unless they go to 460.275R (Boston Interops Channel - maybe Chiefs
only?) - unless they go to a Tac channel for drilling (maybe)
Quincy PD - stay on home channel (453.225R) - unless they go to Ch 2
for license or warrant info - unless they go to BAPERN 3 when leaving
the city
Quincy FD - stay on home channel (483.5375 R) - unless they leave the
city - they have a new FG channel but I never hear them using it
Cambridge PD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to Ch 5 for chit/chat -
unless they go to a specialty channel or a mutual aid channel -
unknown if they have direct comms with Harvard University PD or MIT PD
Cambridge FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to Ch 5 for a EMS call -
unless they go to Ch 14 or Ch 16 for onscene comms - unless they go to
a simplex channel (CH15 or Ch 13) for comms in dead spots where the
TRS doesnt work - unless they leave the city on mutual aid (other FDs
channels or MetroFire channels or statewide Fire TG) - - unless they
switch to a hospital talkgroup to talk to Cambridge Hospital or Mount
Auburn Hospital - unless they switch to a special talkgroup (Admin,
Arson, ? HazMat, etc ??)
Somerville PD - stay on home channel - unless they go to 453.55R for
special ops - unless they leave the city
Somerville FD - stay on Ch 1 for all ops - unless they go to Ch 2 for
a box alarm - unless they leave the city - unless they have some
secret channels
Brookline PD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to Ch 2 for whatever -
unless they use BAPERN
Brookline FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to simplex - unless they
leave the city
Newton PD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they use Ch2 for special ops or
maybe chit/chat - unless they leave the city
Newton FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to Ch 2 for FG - unless they
go to simplex ? - unless they leave the city
Waltham PD - stay on Ch 1 unless they leave the city - they might have
a new Ch 2 also
Waltham FD - stay on Ch 1 (470.125R) - unles they switch to direct
(maybe) - unless they go to Ch 2 (??) - unless they leave the city
Chelsea PD - stay on Ch 1 - maybe have a Ch 2 (471.2375 R?)
Chelsea FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they switch to N FG for a fire -
unless they go to a mutual aid channel - they have a tac channel
(repeater) that they never seem to use
Everett PD - stay on Ch 1 - have a Ch 2?
Everett FD - stay on Ch 1 - go to N FG for fires
Malden PD - stay on Ch 1 - unless ?
Malden FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to N FG for a fire - unless
they leave the city
Medford PD - stay on Ch 1 - ???
Medford FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to N FG for a fire - unless
they leave the city - maybe they have simplex on Ch 1 also
Arlington PD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they leave the city - unless they
go to direct on Ch 1 for short range messages (not used much anymore)
Arlington FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to direct in a dead spot
- unless they go on a mutual aid call - unless they go to the
Arlington Police channel - unless they go to Metro Fire North as a
backup channel
Lynn PD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to the 2ndary channel for ??
Lynn FD - stay on Ch 1 - unless they go to Ch 2 for every box alarm -
unless they go on a mutual aid call
Logan Airport - State Police - stay on 1 channel ?
Logan Airport - MassPort FD - maybe use 2 channels
Mass State Police - stay on their home channel - unless they go to a
chat channel - unless they go to a direct channel to chat - unless
they go to a regional shared channel for special events or breaking
events
