Mass National Guard

Massachusetts National Guard is headquartered at Hanscom AFB. Massachusetts National Guard is staffed by approximately 8,200 soldiers and airmen. Massachusetts National Guard is divided into - Air National Guard and Army National Guard units.

--------------------------------

Per the Mass Natl Guard website on Feb 5, 2015 - there are 6,285 Army Guard members at this time - and there are 2,173 Air Guard members. 80% of them are part time workers (meaning that they have regular fulttime 40 hr per week civilian jobs - and they serve as Natl Guard members 2 weeks in the summer, plus during activations, and for weekend training).

Mass Natl Guard has 45 sites in 38 communities in Massachusetts. The annual budget is $285 million (with $270M of that coming from the Federal government).

Mass National Guard can be used to backup local police - but US federal reserve forces cannot (Army Reserve, Air Force Reserve, etc) - this is due to the Posse Comitaus Act - per the FAQ at the Natl Guard website
