Police & Fire Scanner - from WickedLocal

Guide to using the Rangecast Player

(NOTE: If you don't see the scanner, please download or update Java at java.com.)

Rangecast provides police and fire radio communications for communities in your area. Stay tuned to what's happening in your town and neighboring towns live, as it happens. If there's no radio activity when Rangecast starts you can also go back up to three hours to hear what you missed! If you don't see the town you want here, go to wickedlocal.com/(YOURTOWNNAME) and find the scanner on that site.

1. The green buttons labeled with area towns are Bank Control Buttons.

To turn a Bank (town) off, click its button once and it will turn red.

To listen to only your town's police and fire departments, simply

click every town button to red except for your town.

2. The time slider allows you to go back in time to listen to up to three hours of past transmissions. Click in the slider to go back in time, click the dot on the right to return to the current time.

3. Click anywhere within the large text box to freeze reception on the current channel. This selects one channel (such as police or fire). Click the text box again to return to full reception.

4. For other Rangecast features see the diagram below.

Java software is required to run Rangecast. If your computer reports that it does not have Java or that it "does not support the applet tag", you may download a free copy of the software needed at Java.com and you may then need to re-launch your browser or re-boot. You may also be asked to verify or trust the content of the publisher. This box generally needs to only be checked once.

Note that a few towns use encrypted radios which cannot be monitored. Also, some towns are too far from the scanners to be received clearly or at all.
