Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds stories

I never thought it would happen, but once Duel Links introduced elements of the Dark Signer arc, I gradually became intrigued to the point that I had to watch the whole series. I promptly fell in love with the characters. I'll never like Domino City being torn apart, but I love the characters so much I had to write about them. Sometimes they wander into crossover stories with the classic verse, but other times they have stories to themselves. I tried to make a connected timeline, and most stories do fit into it alright, but I cannot seem to pick a definitive version of The Night After. I keep thinking of more and more angles I want to explore and writing more and more versions. One favorite version is May You Find Some Comfort Here, but it was an earlier experiment and I have slightly altered how I portray the pre-Crash Town arc events since then. Another favorite version is You Are Just Like Me, which digs deeply into Radley being left in the mines and Kalin's horror and heartbreak when he realizes he already came to care about Radley but has lost him. My current most favorite version is If Only My Heart Had a Home and I would like it to be the canon version, save for the fact that Radley is attacked by former Duelists of his instead of by Malcolm's Crew, definitely making it AU from all other versions and thus would be harder to implement as the canon version.  I have been vague in recent stories about exactly what version is considered the canon version to my main timeline, since I am not sure of that myself at this point. 

I'm getting  kind of worn-out trying to keep track of everything on this page, and since Google Sites taking away the ability to update on mobile makes it much harder for me to get things done, I've gotten very far behind by now. I branched off into exploring various AU verses, such as a YGO/Pokemon cross I love, and I'm not sure I feel up to inputting all the other stories in here now. I think I have about a year's worth of stories that would need to be input in here. Perhaps I will make a separate page for all versions of The Night After and that will help keep everything straight.

The Long-Awaited Answer When Kalin Kessler first arrives in Crash Town, he debates which one of the gangs to join and which one will best help him suffer as he feels he has to do.

Play It Again, Old Friend, One More Time AU. In a dimension where Radley was also an Enforcer, Kalin goes to Crash Town much sooner, seeking him out. He finds Radley much changed from the hurt and pain and feels new guilt for hurting yet another loved one.

Holding Out For A Hero Request from General_Zargon. Crash Town has been shaking in fear since Lawton visited to throw out the priest. But West still believes a hero will come, and maybe this time he's right.

Finding Dignity Malcolm is prowling around Radley's house late at night. Kalin is on hand to observe the altercation that follows.

Devil in the Bottle Inspired by XenoEmblem4TW's fic Time to Remember. Kalin has taken to drinking late at night in the saloon. One night Radley happens to find him there.

Perception Versus Reality The latest defeat of Malcolm's chosen Duelist troubles Radley to the point that he begins to have a moral crisis. Kalin, wrapped up in his self-hatred, can't say he cares much. But he does start to discover Radley is not what he thinks, to his surprise.

The Second Cut is the Deepest Radley has to deal with his ex-girlfriend showing up in Crash Town and trying to prey on one of the Bunch. Of course, Kalin gets involved.

Disconnected Kalin and Radley are both hurt in a fight with Malcolm's Crewmembers. Radley is also hurt by Kalin's attitude towards him and finally snaps. They get into a brief argument. But they will each need the other's help before the night is over.

Don't You Forget About Me Crash Town duels are dangerous because the cards and their effects can suddenly come to life. When a card in Kalin's duel knocks Radley out and causes him to be struck with amnesia, Kalin wasn't expecting to feel as guilty and sickened about it as he does.

Tourniquet TRIGGER WARNING. Radley is assaulted by several of Malcolm's Crew but is rescued by Kalin before they can go through with their abominable plan. The emotional wounds still go deep, however, and Radley needs someone to comfort him in the aftermath. Will Kalin try?

The Night After While Sector Security is trying to round up the Malcolm Crew and the prisoners in the Crash Town dyne mines, Radley discovers Nico and West's father Jordan is still alive after his fall. Radley tries to help him despite being tortured to death by the shock collar the Malcolm Crew forced him to wear. Kalin, rediscovering what it is to care about people, is horrified when he finds Radley's final fate.

The Things Never Said An alternate and far darker version of The Night After, in which Kalin is unable to revive Radley. It was started as an experiment to further explore Radley trying to reach out to Kalin and being rejected and blossomed into something far longer than planned. It does, however, have an unexpected ending. (Or maybe expected, if you know me. Heh.)

The Night Has Been Too Lonely Another alternate and darker retelling, based on an AMV I made and inspired by the Project Sakura YGO fanzine. Malcolm and Lawton have been defeated, but some wounds can't be mended. Kalin continually visits the cemetery, bringing yellow roses, a flower of friendship, to Radley's grave.

Broken Pieces Shine This most likely final retelling is based on three role-play versions and may differentiate the most, as Kalin is the one to see Radley come out of the mines and Radley struggles to lead him to the badly injured Jordan. I was very touched by the emotions in this piece and felt I had to share one more version. The role-plays were with Time Thief, Autumn Hazel Scarlet13, and XenoEmblem4TW, and further credits are given on the story itself.

If Only Tears Could Bring You Back Continuing the fifth Enforcer AU verse with its version of The Night After. Kalin desperately looks for Radley in the mines multiple times. In this world he did not abandon Radley there, but simply couldn't find him. At last he does, but Radley is both physically and emotionally spent.

You Are Just Like Me This version of The Night After goes much deeper and poignantly into the situation from Kalin's POV, as here he realizes he already cares deeply about Radley but has lost him, which shatters his heart.

The Sharp Knife of a Short Life Originally intended as a missing scene of the above fic, which really took the characters to task for leaving Radley, it explores what might have happened if Radley's family had been told of his death. And then it wandered off into a weirder path and became its own thing.

A Break That Would Make It Okay Based on the Over the Nexus video game version. Radley was dragged to the Facility when Sector Security didn't bother to ask questions. Alone and despondent, he is losing more and more hope. Can Kalin help him? Will he even try?

The Burden Time Always Reveals Another story based on the Over the Nexus game. In this version, Trudge calls Kalin after some trouble at the Facility. Radley has been stabbed to death by Lawton and his family won't take his body.

A Wish For the Night Radley has to deal with the collapse of a mine shaft and Kalin turning up soaking wet. Later, after Radley is found dead, Kalin thinks back to that time and grieves.

If Only My Heart Had a Home In this version of The Night After, Radley is attacked by former Duelists of his who blame him for their being trapped in the mines. Kalin's grief and anguish and Yusei's guilt are explored in depth.

Am I Too Lost to Be Saved? TRIGGER WARNING. There is a heartbreaking picture on Pixiv of Radley crying and clearly about to be assaulted. This version of The Night After is my long-desired attempt to save Radley from the fate in the picture.

May You Find Some Comfort Here Kalin and the other former Enforcers keep vigil over Radley as he lays comatose and near-death from being tortured in the mines. Radley, meanwhile, sinks deep into his memories and despair as he recalls what led to him being one of the two powers in Crash Town.

All the Things He Said (Not part of the current timeline.) Crash Town is still recovering, and Kalin finds that all the residents are dealing with their own pain, from the former Malcolm Crewmembers to Radley's Bunch to Radley himself.

There is a Time An old enemy of Radley's is coming back into his life. He tells Kalin of how they met years earlier, in a town called Mayberry.

Out of the Mist Kalin and Radley are witness to Antinomy's bizarre revival after the Ark Cradle disaster. But he no longer remembers anything except the need to protect Yusei, who suddenly arrives in Crash Town lonely and grief-stricken and hoping for comfort from Kalin.

All I Want For Christmas An alternate idea for Yusei's first visit to Satisfaction Town. He's lonely, but finds new companionship with Kalin and his new friends. Giftfic for XenoEmblem4TW.

Surround Yourself With Positive Things Amber2002161's idea. Kalin is able to inflict real damage in duels, if he wants to. Radley accidentally discovers this.

Broken Mirror Radley's pendant malfunctions and sends him to the Dark Signer era, where he meets a very different Kalin.

Just a Whisper of Smoke A mining accident leaves Kalin apparently dead and Radley unable to deal with it.

Ghosts of Crash Town Kalin and Radley start investigating the mystery behind the supernatural force over the town. In the process, they learn of Kalin's family's connection with the original Old West mining town.

I Know You Carry Me A short story and homeless scene collection. It focuses on Kalin and Radley's deep friendship, some more adventures, and some sweet domestic scenes. Ongoing.

Deceiver of Hearts What should have been a simple prowler mystery turns dark and horrifying when it looks like Kalin has struck and killed Radley with his motorcycle.

A Precious Pearl Most people in town love Radley, but there are a few who are suspicious of him. Kalin hates that, but doesn't know how to convince them of the truth that Radley is good and kind.

The Ghost of Bennett Ranch A ranch that has been providing jobs for former members of Malcolm's Crew begins to experience strange and dangerous accidents. Kalin and Radley start to investigate. Is there really a restless ghost, or is the culprit someone living who doesn't appreciate what the ranch is doing?

Sometimes Nice Guys Finish First Radley and Malcolm are opposites. This is driven home all the more when Radley saves Malcolm's life during an earthquake.

Castles and Dreams It's off to Scotland when Marty inherits a castle and wants to check it out. But someone wants it for themselves, and will do anything to hurt Radley, Kalin, Marty, and the others to get it.

Hold On to You and I Kalin and Radley are struggling to survive a snowstorm while the Bunch and the Big Five launch a search-and-rescue effort.

Let Our Mercy Be The Gifts We Lay Radley tells Kalin about the first Christmas in Crash Town.

See What the Time's Done A rash of poison pen letters hit the town at the same time Radley's estranged mother appears.

Where the Lovelight Gleams While Radley's family all miraculously wants to reunite with him, Lawton breaks out of the Facility seeking his revenge.

Moonlight Legend Radley and Kalin discover a bizarre and beautiful possibility that they are reincarnated princes from Spain who loved each other very dearly and were killed fighting a beast of evil. May or may not be part of the main timeline.

Through the Years Kalin, Radley, and everyone gather to watch West compete in a rodeo 15 years down the line.

What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted? Twenty years later, Yusei visits Satisfaction Town after a tragedy and tries to help Kalin deal with it, but Kalin is inconsolable.

Take Me On  A Journey Radley finds an adorable Eevee and realizes she is his childhood friend who disappeared years ago. Together, they, Kalin, and the Bunch embark on a wonderful and strange adventure into the world within their world.

We Could Be the Best Team of All Time To everyone's surprise, they learn a heartbreaking and tragic secret of Isla Eevee's past, one that could potentially have a happy ending.

Journey to Your Heart Radley finds another Eevee and tries to show her the same kindness and love he shows to their other Eevees. But will little Lily, who has always been wild, be able to trust that this amazing new world is for real?

Radley, the Wizard, and Ozma of Oz Not to be taken seriously or thought of as part of the main timeline, this is a fun and cracky piece where several characters end up thrust into the basic plot of the 1939 movie and have to play out the story to get home. Along the way, they meet another adorable Eevee.

My Night as an Eevee Also may or may not be part of the main timeline. A bizarre little tale written because of a dream I had that upset me and I had to get this out of my system to feel better about it. Kalin supposedly wakes up as an Eevee one night, but things aren't always as they seem....

I'll Go Anywhere If I'm With You Scotch finds a family of Eevees under his bed, sending everyone into the amazing and adorably exhausting world of raising baby Eevees.

Where in the World Does This Story Go

Say Goodbye to the Pain of the Past A three-way cross with 5Ds, DM, and Frozen. Radley, Kalin, and Scotch discover Frozen is real when they stumble into a series of murder attempts on Prince Hans, who insists he was mind-controlled when he turned against Anna. As they, Anna, and Elsa struggle to believe him, a twisted plot unfolds that heavily involves Hans' manager ... who turns out to be Lawton. I can't decide if this story is main timeline or a branch-off timeline. It develops Lawton so much, I rather want it to be the main timeline. But I'm not sure Frozen is real in the main timeline. Plus, the story is  a beautiful disaster where it comes to how the different timelines fit together. It takes place a couple of years after Frozen, but 5Ds would be at least ten years later, if not more, depending on what verse I'm following. So ... don't think too hard about all that and just enjoy the ride!

The So Much Beauty Stories

I wanted to write a series of vignettes about Kalin's time in Crash Town prior to the arc. It didn't take long and I realized things would unfold differently here than in other stories. In the main timeline, usually I have that DM takes place in the present day and 5Ds is thirty years later. These stories instead plant 5Ds in the present day. I rather prefer this timeline in some ways, since I prefer whatever show I'm into to be the present day. Plus, it made it much easier to discuss things I wanted them to discuss. It also boasts one of my two favorite versions of The Night After.

So Much Beauty and Love Inside Us An exploration of pre-Crash Town through Kalin's eyes, as he watches Radley handle various situations around town and attempt to reach out to Kalin time and again. Kalin wants to reciprocate so badly, yet he feels he cannot.

A Change in My Life Kalin is getting used to his new life in Satisfaction Town with Radley and the Bunch. He is also getting to know himself again. When Yusei invites Kalin to the WRGP, it begins a long quest of self-discovery for both him and Radley.
