Defying Gravity: Kalin & Radley

This fanmix was inspired by XenoEmblem4TW, who suggested using more Wicked songs. It's hard to find ones that have generic versions that could be used for many characters, but I did find a generic Defying Gravity. From there, I got the idea to make a mix largely of showtunes. I'm really surprised by the number of them that fit! I also have some rock songs sprinkled throughout that fit. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMqVKPkJHK6JVnk0X0JvM7EHLziY1YopM

Monster from Frozen: The Musical

Kalin is devastated by all he did as a Dark Signer and feels he's a monster. He determines just a regular suicide isn't enough to pay for all his crimes and he will stay alive until he finds the best way to punish himself.

God Help the Outcasts by Bette Midler

Crash Town is the City of the Lost, a place where outcasts dwell. Radley, one of the chief outcasts, is trying to find a solution to win the town back from his rival Malcolm, with whom he battles every night. He pleads to God to help their situation, despite not being very religious.

Breaking the Habit by Caleb Hyles

Kalin arrives in Crash Town and decides it's perfect for his punishment. He plans to join Radley's Bunch and someday will lose to Malcolm's Crew, where he will be tortured as he feels he deserves.

I'm Still Here by Jim Rzeznik

Kalin meets Radley, who isn't at all what Kalin pictured. A proud rebel, Radley is filled with hopes and dreams and says he's held out against everyone who wanted him to change.

Easier to Run by Linkin Park

Kalin is too wrapped up in his despair to accept Radley's friendship. He focuses on his pain and what he feels he has to do about it.

Surface Pressure (Brother Version) by Caleb Hyles

Radley is cracking under the pressure of trying to look out for all the Bunch and the town in the middle of Malcolm's wanted takeover. He wishes he had a confidante to help him bear the burden. Of course, the opening  lines are meant to be taken symbolically and not literally with Radley, like that as a businessman he arranges the moving of things but not that he physically does it himself.

Dangerous to Dream from Frozen: The Musical

Kalin repeatedly rejects Radley's overtures of friendship, feeling that's what's for the best for Radley. He doesn't dare try to have a normal life after all the pain he's caused. At one point he has a bit of hope that maybe he can, however. This version of the song eliminates the middle section about the coronation, making it more generic. Taken out of context, there's no real way to know that the reference to the queen means the actual narrator, so I hoped it would work because it's so perfect otherwise!

Believer by Caleb Hyles

This song sounds like both Radley and Kalin in certain ways, Kalin's obsession with pain and Radley's insistence on being his own person. It may be both of them announcing their feelings at the tops of their lungs.

Lithium by Evanescence

Kalin struggles with his depression and self-hatred while Radley continues to implore him to be with him and have a better life.

Unwanted by Avril Lavigne

Kalin's hurtful behavior has brought Radley to his breaking point. He is fed-up with the rejections after only trying to be nice.

What I've Done by Linkin Park

Kalin is hopeful he's close to his punishment now. It's all he's wanted for so long now, he's lost sight of everything else.

Defying Gravity by Idina Menzel

Kalin has had an epiphany and is finally waking up, ready to face the world and his problems and not try to solve them with torture and suicide.

Cloud Nine by Evanescence

Kalin finds Radley at the point of death in the mines, tortured and alone and heartbroken. Radley has given up, yet still wishes Kalin would care for him and try to get him back.

Hurt by Christina Aguilera

Kalin is heartbroken and continues to express his sorrow to Radley and how he longs for him to come back to him.

I Still Love You by The Overtunes

Radley, out of his body and seeing everything, finally understands Kalin's behavior. He forgives Kalin and assures him he still cares. He comes back to life.

I See the Light by Monkljae

Kalin and Radley are finally free to grow close together. They rejoice in what they've  found with each other. This cover was chosen since, with the girl singing both parts, it says "he" instead of "she." Also, it's beautiful.

True Kinda Love by Caleb Hyles

Kalin and Radley continue to celebrate what they've found. This is a sweet cover of a song from Steven Universe that apparently adds some extra lyrics, according to commenters.

May It Be by Enya

Kalin and Radley, along with their friends, have to set out on a dangerous quest to stop Lawton from taking over the Duel Monsters world.

Leave Out All the Rest by Linkin Park

Radley is pushed into a situation where he has to sacrifice himself, to his devastation. He prays Kalin will be able to deal with it.

The Next Right Thing by Dodobird

This beautiful and heartbreaking Frozen II cover is Kalin's reaction to Radley's sacrifice and his attempt to face it.

Never Go Back by Evanescence

Kalin continues to grieve for Radley and feels he can't go on without him.

When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio

Kalin's grieving is answered and Radley is returned to him. They celebrate their reunion.

Go the Distance by Michael Bolton

Radley had once longed to be a hero. Now, all he really wants is to be with Kalin. He tells Kalin of how far he traveled to get back to him.

Something Good from The Sound of Music

Kalin can hardly believe that he has something  as amazing as Radley's love after all he has done, but he does and it's real and Radley is happy to be with him.

How Does a Moment Last Forever by Nicolas Dorian

I have long wanted to use this song for YGO, and this mix is a perfect place for it. A beautiful song celebrating the love that has formed between Kalin and Radley.
