William A. Jackson — No. 180

William Alston Jackson of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away at the age of 70 on Nov. 29, 2014, in Jacksonville. He was Iota Theta Zeta No. 180.

He was born on April 8, 1944, in Jacksonville to William Roy Jackson Jr. and Ruby-John Kennedy Jackson. Both his father and his mother preceded him in death.He is survived by his wife, Beverly Baker Jackson; his twin brother, Walt H. Jackson, (Jeannie Jackson); two children, William Scott Jackson (Jennifer Davis Jackson) and Jennifer Jackson Brown (Jason Brown); and four granddaughters, Elizabeth Ossi, Madison Jackson, Katherine Ossi and Grace Brown.Bill was an all-city football player at Nathan B. Forrest High school, where he graduated in 1962. He received a football scholarship to Arkansas State College, which he attended for one year and joined Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Then he transferred to Florida State University, graduating in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He then obtained a master’s in educational leadership at the University of North Florida in 1976.Afterward, he accepted an assistant coaching position at Forrest High School, coaching tennis, track, football and finally serving as athletic director. Then he became a school administrator, serving in various positions at several schools and eventually retiring in 1998 as an assistant director of finance.A memorial service was held on Dec. 4, 2014, at Mandarin Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.
