John Edward Damron — Iota Theta 389

John Edward Damron, 70, of Jonesboro, Iota Theta No. 389, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.

Mr. Damron was born on Dec. 3, 1942, in Memphis. He proudly served for seven years as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps as a classified radio operations specialist. His military duties involved traveling extensively throughout the world, as well as a tour in Vietnam. He was fluent in Portuguese and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He graduated from Arkansas State University and worked in the family business, Damron Construction Co., for numerous years.

He retired from Lowe’s Home Improvement, where he worked in the millwork department. His position involved temporarily relocating to storm-ravaged cities, as well as the opening of new stores where he instructed employees on the operation of the computerized system. He was affectionately known as “the Lowe’s guy with the towel around his neck.”

He was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ, Frierson Street Church of Christ and Main & Oak Church of Christ for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his father, H.E. “Dude” Damron of Jonesboro; a brother and his wife, Jim and Carole Damron; four nieces and nephews and their spouses, Warren and Jamie Damron, Chris and Breanne Damron, all of Jonesboro, Chelley and Danny Counce of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Jimmy and Shanna Jimerson of Sheffield, Ala.; six great-nieces and nephews, Jayden Damron, Katie Damron, Caleb Damron, John Mark Damon, Lyla Damron and Reese Damron; and his beloved dog, “Junior.”

He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Ruth Damron, and a sister, Vicki McMinn Jimerson.

A celebration of his life was held Thursday, Dec. 27, at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Dr. Jimmy Adcox and Richard Akins officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jim Damron, Warren Damron, Chris Damron, Jim Goodman, Jim Bob Jordan and Corey Herndon. Honorary pallbearers were Helen Schenk, Toni Davis, Dr. Michael Issacson, Dr. Allen Nixon Jr., Dr. James Sanders, Judge Brent Davis, Ron Blackburn and Ronnie Richardson.

The family suggested that lasting memorials be made to The Children’s Home Inc., 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould 72450.
