U.W. Mullins Jr. passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at White County Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Blytheville, Ark., on May 30, 1945, Mullins was preceded in death by his parents, U.W. Mullins Sr. and Flora Lee Graham Mullins.

Mr. Mullins is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lisa Simmons Mullins; his four daughters, Lindsey (Brian) Kelley of Maumelle, Laura Beth Mullins of Searcy, Emilee (Todd) Dutton of Star City and Allison Hargrove of DeWitt; his sister, Ona Lee (Gil) Swain of Northport, Fla.; his in-laws, Walter Ray and Betty Simmons; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stacy and Jim Freeman; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mullins was a 1963 graduate of Blytheville High School and 1968 graduate of Arkansas State University, where he received a bachelor of science in business administration and finance.

Following college, Mr. Mullins served in the United States Navy from 1968 until 1972 and was stationed at Pensacola, Fla., and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged.

In 1981 he graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Banking. In the banking business for 40 years, Mr. Mullins worked in banks across Arkansas and Tennessee including Little Rock, Memphis, DeWitt, Hot Springs, Fordyce and Mountain Home. His most recent position was senior vice president at First Security Bank in Searcy.

An active Rotarian, he served as president for a number of Rotary Clubs during his lifetime and recently received the "Paul Harris Fellow" from the Searcy Rotary Club. He acted as Chamber of Commerce president for the Chambers in DeWitt, Fordyce and Mountain Home.

Mr. Mullins also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and especially watching the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Bible Church Building Fund or The American Cancer Society.

The Powell Funeral Home in Searcy (http://www.powellfuneralhome.net) was in charge of arrangements.

The funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 25, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1921 Beebe-Capps Expressway, Searcy. Burial was in Cedar Crest Memorial Gardens, 1405 South Granview, DeWitt.
