Tommy Taggart — No. 126

Thomas Roth “Tommy” Taggart, a lifelong resident of Augusta, Ark., died Thursday, March 8, 2018, after a hard fought 2-year battle with brain

cancer. He was Iota Theta Zeta No. 126.Tommy was born in Augusta on Dec. 24, 1939, the son of Glenn and Viola Taggart. He graduated from then-Arkansas State College in 1964 with a degree in agriculture, then returned to Augusta to manage the family seed business.Tommy had two main passions. One was socializing with family and friends. He loved to be around good people who wanted to have fun. He was well known for his hospitality and his generous spirit. The other passion was construction; he loved designing and building structures and equipment for his family’s seed and grain business, Taggart & Taggart Seed Inc. The company still thrives today because of his strong leadership.He was president of the Arkansas Seed Dealers, president of the Arkansas Drier & Warehouseman’s Association, president of the Woodruff County Farm Bureau and served on the board of the Mid-South Grain Association. Tommy was also an active deacon at the First Baptist Church in Augusta for 40 years.As a lifelong entrepreneur, Tommy had many successful business ideas and a few that were not so successful, but he was never one to give up. He always persevered through the trials of life with God and his family close to his heart.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Taggart; his daughter, Tammy Taggart Williams, and husband Scott; his son, Tal Taggart (Iota Theta Zeta No. 737), and wife Lynn; five grandchildren, Tiffany Taggart, Hunter Taggart Williams, Trace Taggart, Marissa Williams and Savannah Williams; two sisters, Jean Holmes and Annette McClintock; and two brothers, Charles Taggart and Gary Taggart.

The family requests that memorials may be made to the Augusta First Baptist Church 310 Pearl St., Augusta 72006.

Memorial services were held Monday, March 12, at the First Baptist Church in Augusta.
