Membership

For several years the House Corp. board has been trying to update our data base of members, which had fallen badly out of date. The chapter had not attempted to do a regular newsletter in some time, and mailouts typically produced a 40-50 percent return We found that the national organization's data base was no better, and it was not likely to improve with discontinuation of the Cross and Crescent as a mailout magazine. However, we found that the Arkansas State University Alumni Association has a good data base of all alumni and the ability to sort out a Lambda Chi Alpha list. We shared what we had, and the Alumni Association produced a merged list for us. That's what we've been working with, but it's a never-ending job. New graduates move from campus without leaving a forwarding address, and we generally lose touch with them for at least a time. Younger alumni tend to move frequently, and even the university has trouble keeping up with them.Meanwhile, Jay Clark, Iota Theta 803, began building an e-mail data base, and that has grown greatly over the past few years. It has proven to be a good way of reaching a lot of alumni quickly. Bu there are, of course, some limitations, starting with the fact that not everyone does e-mail. And even if we get good addresses for some brothers, most of us change Internet providers periodically, or our provider changes its name, etc. When that happens, we don't automatically receive a change of address, and often we don't even get a bounce-back notice. What we hope to do with this Web site is to enlist the aid of more brothers to help us in the process of improving our data base and keeping it up to date. Below is attached an Excel data base that can be downloaded. We hope you'll take the time to look at it and see if you can help with any brothers you've kept in touch with.

Send address changes, additions, corrections, phone numbers, e-mail addresses to me at the address below. It would also be helpful if you could copy Jay Clark at pjclark@aol.com, especially if you have e-mail addresses.

I've created this Web site, mainly to help us with planning and communications for the 50th annual Founders Day celebration and kept it alive pending a better permanent site.
