Don Breytspraak — No. 66

Donald Lloyd Breytspraak Sr., 77, of Tyler, Texas, died Nov. 3, 2017. He was initiated into Lambda Chi Alpha as a charter member of Iota Theta Zeta in 1959. He was zeta No. 66 and the father of Donald Breyspraak Jr., Iota Theta Zeta no. 779.

He was born March 21, 1940, in LaGrange, Ill., to Elmer and Jeanette Breytspraak. He married the love of his life, Linda G. Hiett, on Aug. 25, 1962, and the

y celebrated their 55-year anniversary last year.Brother Don went to high school in Mountain Home, where he still holds the record for the longest touchdown run. He obtained his undergraduate degree in music education from then-Arkansas State College. He went on to earn a master’s degree in music education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.He was a member of the Arkansas National Guard before embarking on a career as a music educator, and in that career he inspired creativity and challenged countless young minds to think big. In the years after he retired in 2003 numerous students reached out to him to say thank you for the inspiration and encouragement they received from him.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lee Breytspraak of Mountain Home.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and her husband, Donna and Brent Chambers of Lindale, Texas; his son and his wife, Donny and Nonnie Breytspraak of Rockwall, Texas; his grandchildren, Jason Chambers, Ashley Sorrells and her husband Caden Sorrells, and Justin Chambers, all of Lindale, as well as Joshua Breytspraak and Jacob Breytspraak and his wife Hillary, all of Jonesboro, Ark.; and a nephew, Christopher Breytspraak of Little Rock.

A memorial service was held Nov. 6, 2017, at Mount Sylvan Baptist Church in Lindale.
