D.L. Bailey — No. 23

D.L. Bailey, 82, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at his home. He was Iota Theta Zeta number 23.

He had lived in Jonesboro for the past 11 years, moving here from the West Helena-Helena area. He was a member of the Cleburne Avenue Presbyterian Church.

D.L. graduated from Blytheville High School and received his bachelor of science degree in journalism from then-Arkansas State College. While at A-State he was one of the founders of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity chapter.

He worked in the news industry in Florida, Missouri and Arkansas. He served as the editor for the Twin City Tribune in West Helena from 1969-83. In 1984 he founded the Phillips County Progress and was the publisher, retiring in 2003.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

D.L. was preceded in death by two children, Fran Tomlinson and Don Henderson, his parents, one brother and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Patricia Bailey of the home; three sons, Arthur Henderson of Ovett, Miss., Beau Henderson (Sandie) of Jonesboro, and David Bailey (Melissa) of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a daughter, Tammie Crawford (Frank) of the home; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sept. 11 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye, near Cherry Valley.
