Douglas E. Henson — No. 433

Douglas Edward Henson of Orange Beach, Ala., died Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the age of 61. Born in Blytheville, Ark., he was Iota-Theta Zeta No. 433.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henson and Nell Moore Henson, and a daughter, Kathryn Elise Henson.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Yarberry Henson; a daughter, Lauren Henson Foster (Will) of Heartland, Texas; a sister: Janice Henson Littrell (Steve) of Blytheville; a brother, Paul Henson of Jacksonville; a niece, Jennifer Littrell Johnson (John) and a grand-nephew: Robert Hopper of Blytheville. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Pam Zabicki of Little Rock; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Yarberry (Nancy) of Hot Springs Village and Eddie Yarberry (Suzanne) of San Diego; six nieces, Vicki Brattan (Phillip) of Clovis, N.M., Denise Reed (Will) of England, Ark., Jessica Loftus (Josh) of Lake Jackson, Texas, Beth Novotny (Jacob) of Elk River, Minn., and Anna and Claire Yarberry of San Diego; and a nephew, Jackson Yarberry of San Diego.After attending Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, where he was affiliated with Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Doug moved to Little Rock in 1979 and worked for Baldwin & Shell Construction Company as an estimator. In 2014 he retired from that company as executive vice president, chief operating officer and a member of the Board of Directors.A lifetime member of the American Society of Professional Estimators, Doug was also a past president of the Arkansas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. He contributed in many ways to other worthy endeavors both civic and construction-industry related.After retiring and moving to Orange Beach, Doug joined the Treasures of the Isle Mardi Gras Krewe, the Gulf Coast Athletic Club and was extremely proud to be known as “Cabana Boy” to many close friends on the island. He was also very helpful to the Sirens of the Sea Mardi Gras Krewe in their various activities. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix IX Condominium building.

Doug was loved and will be missed by many people for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and his sometimes annoyingly analytical mind!

Funeral services were held March 15 at Faith Lutheran Church located at 1196 Desoto Blvd, Hot Springs Village, followed by burial in Pine Crest Memorial Park at Benton.

The family suggested considering a memorial to the Kathryn Elise Henson Memorial Fund that provides camp scholarships to the Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean Mountain in Morrilton by mailing donations to Mid-South LCMS, 1675 Wynne Road, Cordova, Tenn. 38016.
