Robert D. Velander — No. 270

Dr. Robert D. Velander, 68, of Blue Springs, Mo., who was Iota-Theta Zeta No. 270), passed away May 24, 2017.

He was at the Veterans Administration care facility in Cape Girardeau, Mo., after suffering a stroke during a bypass surgery in 2002 at the age of 54.

He was an accomplished U.S. Air Force pilot and flight surgeon, board certified in emergency medicine and board certified in anesthesia. Prior to his health problems he practiced with Anesthesia Associates of Kansas City.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University in 1970.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jan Velander; his brother, David Velander of Cordova, Tenn., (Iota-Theta No. 248); a daughter; and two step-sons. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter.

Burial was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at Kansas City.
