A 299’er reading plan

 A 299’er reading plan

By now, you and your regular partner have read Standard Bidding with SAYC

, by Downey and Pomer.

Using some book template, like Mike Lawrence’s Partnership Understandings,

you have composed a draft copy of your bidding agreement.  You’re excited!  You know all there is to know about transfers and Stayman.  You can say 1430 or 3014 in either French or English.  You know how to advance both minor and major openings with the best of them.  If only those pesky opponents would stop interfering.  Just how do you handle those annoying overcallers?

Audrey Grant covers the basics with her Competitive Bidding book, part of her solid five

book Bridge Basics series. , but I like the second edition of Mike Lawrence’sThe Complete Book on Overcalls.

It was only after reading this book and his TAKEOUT DOUBLES book that I stopped getting bullied at the bridge table.

Maybe you think your partner should be a better defender.  If that is the case, encourage your partner to read tomorrow’s story.

“A demain”, and remember Be Courteous – Opponents may just be Friends we haven’t yet met!
