Emily Leake Day

Today We Celebrate Emily Leake

Emily Leake, longtime manager and director, recently turned over the reins at the Tyler Duplicate Bridge Club, where she faithfully conducted two games each week for the past 45 years. In recognition and honor of her contributions and achievements throughout the years, Unit 225 is pleased to designate Thursday, April 20th, as Emily Leake Day at the 2017 Tournament of Stars.

Emily not only has been a wonderful ambassador for bridge, she is a delight to know. With her endearing dry wit, she recalls becoming a director because no one else wanted the job. But, Emily has done more than direct. She has given lessons and brought many new players to our unit. She has provided desserts and snacks for players to enjoy. She has made life master parties festive with her decorations and special touches.

A Diamond Life Master, Emily is recognized by all as one of the outstanding players in our unit. At the bridge table, she is cheerful and complimentary to other players, and her table presence is outstanding. She is always willing to share her knowledge and expertise with other players. Frequently the go-to person for questions, Emily strives to help and encourage any player who is trying to improve their game. If playing at other games in the unit, she pitches in to help a fellow director with computer scoring, folding tables, cleaning up or whatever is needed.

Over the years, Emily has served on the unit board and completed two terms as board president. The Emily Leake Award is presented annually in August to the novice player who, starting with less than 100 masterpoints, accumulated the most points at the monthly unit games during the preceding twelve months. Fittingly, in 2006 Emily received the Texas Star Award for her steadfast work at the unit level to promote bridge and further unit activities.

Please join the members of Unit 225 in celebrating Emily on this special day!
