Ann McGilvrey Award Presented

Barbara Bergman Presented with Ann McGilvrey Award

Before Sunday's afternoon session of play, District 5 President, Jan Assini, introduced Barbara Bergman and gave her a plaque honoring her as the 2016 Ann McGilvrey Award Winner. Her name has also been engraved on a large plaque honoring all past recipients of this prestigious award. That plaque is on display at all District 5 regionals.

The Ann McGilvrey Award honors a District 5 player, or in some cases a pair, who demonstrates ethical behavior and good sportsmanship at the bridge table. The recipients are not chosen on the basis of service or bridge ability. Only past winners are invited to participate in the selection process. Anyone may nominate someone and the choice among the nominees is made by previous winners.  Typically the selection committee will look for someone who has established a district-wide reputation for active ethics and good manners.

Barbara Bergman from Unit 142 (Pittsburgh area) lives in Wexford, PA and fully epitomizes the qualities of an Ann McGilvrey Award winner.  Barbara is known for her friendliness at the bridge table and actively promotes ethics in the Pittsburgh and District 5 bridge community. Barbara is a Diamond Life Master with over 6,000 masterpoints.

Barbara is the go to person for hospitality at the Pittsburgh Sectionals and the Pittsburgh Regional.  She is a member of the ACBL Goodwill Committee and she has held many positions in the Pittsburgh Sectional and our District.

Please join us in congratulating Barbara on being named the 2016 Ann McGilvrey Award winner.
