2017 McGilvrey Award

Congratulations to Cathy Marsteller, the 2017 Ann McGilvrey Award winner.

Cathy has played bridge for 37 years and demonstrates how ever bridge player should play the game.  She is friendly to everyone, encouraging to new players and has a unique knack for making each person feel special through her patience and humor. She has played with many new players, helping them in a respectful manner and encouraging them to keep playing. Even though Cathy knew that her friend Julia had little time left, playing bridge at Crosscreek together was important to both of them.

The game of bridge is important for Cathy, but her socialization with other players and how she values those relationships is what sets her apart from the average bridge player. Whether you are a partner or opponent, you can't help but smile after being around Cathy because of her wonderful attitude, humor and smile.

The Ann McGilvrey Award honors a District 5 player, or in some cases a pair, who demonstrates ethical behavior and good sportsmanship at the bridge table. The recipients are not chosen on the basis of service or bridge ability. Only past winners are invited to participate in the selection process. Anyone may nominate someone and the choice is made by previous winners.  Typically the selection committee will look for someone who has established a district-wide reputation for active ethics and good manners.
