Fun Facts #4

Every year at the end of November, the state of Montana gets ready for the football game between the University of Montana Grizzlies, located in Missoula, and the Montana State Bobcats, located in Bozeman. The Griz-Cat Rivalry (since we are in Missoula, it is not the Cat-Griz Rivalry) is also known as The Brawl of the Wild. The rivalry began on November 26, 1897 in Bozeman, Montana, between the Bears and the Aggies. The rivalry is the 31st oldest among active rivalries in NCAA Division I and it is the oldest Football Champion Series (FCS) west of the Mississippi River.

Since 2001, the winner of the game takes home The Great Divide Trophy, standing at three feet tall and depicts a Grizzly and a Bobcat clawing for a football. At the end of the 21st century, the team with the most wins gets to keep the trophy. The Griz lead the series over the Cats, 73-39-5 (they did not play in 11 years) and the record since 2001 is Griz 10, Cats 7. Go Griz!
