1801. December 27th. Charles Clay was born. Surgeon and Gynaecologist son of Joseph Clay miller and corn merchant at Arden Mills. Bredbury near Stockport. Charles went to University and Medical School and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons he is  accredited with having performed the worlds first successful hysterectomy. Upon his retirement he lived at Poulton-le-Fields in Lancashire where he died age in 1893 age 91. (University of Manchester Library Ref.- GB 133MMM/16).

1825. John Clay. (Rev) born 1796 at Liverpool son of Thomas Clay ship and anchor merchant of Liverpool and Mary his wife - admitted to Cambridge University in 1825. - Had mechanical genius and invented a chair for invalids and an improved bow and arrow which long bore his name.

Rev. John Clay 1796 - 1858. Prison Chaplain at Preston. Lancashire from 1823 a post he held for 36 years. He was married to Henrietta Fielding in 1828. He was the son of Thomas Clay. Ship and Anchor Smith of Liverpool. The Will and Administration  of Jan. 19th 1859 of his personal estate and effects  were granted to the Rev. Walter Lowe Clay of Kenilworth in the County of Warwick son of Rev. John Clay.

1828 - 55. Household Accounts and Cellar Book of (Rev) John Clay. Gives details of his expenses for furniture, sugar, wine, painting, music, wages and taxes etc. His cellar accounts gives type of drink year of purchase, quantity and price. 1831. June 3rd. Birth of Alfred Barron Clay at Walton near Preston the son of the Rev.John Clay and Henrietta (Fielding). Alfred studied as a solicitor but eventually became a full time artist and his paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy.

1837. May 5th. Ensign James Herbert Clay 59th Regiment of Foot was born at Manchester 13th August 1819. (Army Service Records).

1837. Committee of the House of Commons. The Rev. Walter Clay son of the famous prison chaplain Rev. John Clay says in his memoirs of his father that probably no volume was ever published in England of which contents were so loathsome as those of the Committees report. 1844. March 23rd. Notice is hereby given that the partnership between Ralph Clay and George Clay as Iron Merchants, Ship and Anchor Smiths and Chain Cable Manufacturers at Liverpool and Workington under the name of Ralph Clay and Son was dissolved by mutual consent. (Ref.- The Gazette Newspaper).

1844. March 27th. On Wednesday morning the house of Mr Robert Clay chemist and druggist of Bold Street. Liverpool was almost entirely destroyed by fire. A female servant and a gentleman named Keane who resided in the house were very seriously injured by jumping from the second floor window a height of 30 feet in their fright. No lives were lost. (Worcester Chronicle).

Brass plaques are attached to the columns either side of the building which say "Chemist to the Queen. Clay and Abraham Ltd". They had a Royal Crest above the shop which said  "By Special Appointment to the late Queen Victoria".
