1809. April 8th. Thomas Clay age 21 born Cheshire c1788 Military registered in Lancashire. (Ref.- War Office Register No.56.).

1810. April 21st. Certificate of maintenance for the dependents of John Clay's at Nantwich. Cheshire. (Lancashire Archives Ref.- QSP/2596/51+52).

1811. April 9th. Two men were charged with stealing out of the warehouse of James Newton and Joseph Clay at Bredbury sacks of flour. (The warehouse is near the canal) -- (Chester Courant).

1811. May 3rd.  State Lottery tickets are on sale at Thomas Claye. Bookseller at Stockport.  (Ref.- Chester Chronicle May 3rd. page 2).

1812. June 8th. Trial at Chester. The Rioters. Several men assembled at Bredbury and entered the Corn Mill of Joseph Clay burning and carrying away flour. They were found guilty, other mills were also affected and 16 men were received the death sentence. (Hamts Chronicle).

1812. Nov. 3rd. Notice is hereby given that the partnership between James Newton and Joseph Clay of Arden Mill within the parish of Stockport in the County of Cheshire. Flour and Corn Dealers carried on at Ashton-under-Line and at Arden Mill under the firm of Newton and  Clay was dissolved by mutual consent who will carry on the business upon their own seperate concern. (London Gazette page 2223).

1814. April 29th. James Clay age 41 a shoemaker from Spurstow near Nantwich and Jane Minshull age 33 a widow from Spurstow were charged with stealing out of a shop of Mr Richard Owen of Nantwich draper 3 pieces of printed calico. Mr Owen said they came into his shop under pretence of looking at some prints they were seen to be whispering they went out saying they would call again. A witness saw something under her clothes and took the print from her and they were taken into custody. Clay said the woman was not his wife but she had lived with him for eleven months. They were found guilty of stealing. (Chester Chronicle).

1816. March 9th. Mary Mellor aged 69 suffered much ill health until I purchased the Antiscorbutic Drops from Mr Claye. Stationer at Stockport and wish to make public this extraordinary cure. (PC 2023).

1827 - 51. Samuel Clays served in 1st Foot Guards. Born Bunbury. Cheshire. Discharged age 42. (TNA Ref.- WO97/162/55).

1828. Aug. 5th. John Foster and Thomas Clay of Macclesfield in County of Cheshire. Silk Throwsters, Manufacturers, Dealers and Chapman trading as Foster and Clay are to meet to audit accounts being bankrupt on 12th May 1826. (London Gazette page 1503).

1829. Sale of Mr Shuttleworth's effects. The late Mr T. Clay father of Mr William Clay printer and stationer of the Underbank was executor of the Will. (Ref.- Cheshire Notes and Queries).

1829. April 21st. Land Dispute. Joseph Clay farmer and miller of Stockport was a witness. In court it was said Mr Clay can read very well and saw the document. (Chester Courant).

1836. Norbury township. Scriptual for the use of Sunday school extracted from Thomas Clay of Stockport and others. (East Cheshire Past and Present).

1839 - 45. Joseph Clays served in the 98th Foot Regiment. Born at Bunbury. Cheshire. Discharged age 27. (TNA Ref.- WO97/1053/34).

1847.  Deed and Release by Thomas Claye stationer of Stockport and Mary his wife (Nee Needham)  to Samuel Needham properties in Fairfield, Monyash and Wormhill. (Ref.- DRO. D2575/T/129).

1859. Clay family emigrated to Australia. Henry Clay son of Charles Clay born 1844 in Cheshire became a poet and public servant in Australia. (Ref.- Australian Dictionary of Biography. Vol. 3).

1869. Feb.6th. Dorchester Prison. John Clays of Tarporley. Cheshire. age 22. Labourer. Single. Charged with vagrancy and begging.  Height 5'9". Hair brown. Eyes grey. Mole near corner of left eye. 7 days in gaol. 1st offence. (Dorset History Centre Ref.- NGPR1D33).

1885. Feb. 6th. The Will of Thomas Clay late of Asager in county of Chester corn miller who died 22nd Aug. 1885 was proved by Jane Clay of Alsager his widow. (Ref.- The National Probate Calendar).

1896. Mrs Ann Gertrude Clay of Macclesfield donated a new window in Heather church. Leicestershire to the memory of her brother Henry Slater Woolley. (Ref.- Hathi Trust).

1899. Edward Clay late of 36 Elm Grove. Birkenhead who died 13th Oct. 1899. Probate was granted to James Pownall cashier, George Pownall banker, Albert Pownall accountant. (Probate Calendar).

1905. Frodsham Petty Sessions. Ralph Clay was fined 5 shillings for driving a pony and cart without a light. (The Chester Courant Newspaper page 3).
