Texas House
Texas House was a two-story small house student residence located north of 17th Street between Avenues I and J.
The building originally housed members of the Philomatheans (or "Philos") literary society, one of the many similar social groups that existed on campus at the beginning of the Twentieth century.
In 1959, the students of the club became charter members of the Delta Zeta chapter of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and the building reflected the name change. Residence Life classified this and the other surrounding small houses as Sorority Hill. The sorority remained in the house for 63 years.
The Texas State University System Board of Regents approved the eventual demolition of all eight buildings on Sorority Hill during the May 2011 meeting. However, no timeline was given for when this would occur [3].
All sororities moved off campus at the end of the 2018-19 school year. In spring 2019, Residence Life announced the building would be known as Texas House for the 2019-20 school year.
SHSU demolished the houses on Sorority Hill in March 2021.
